As with any brushed electric motor both brushes should be changed, it is not good practice to have different lengths of brushes.

SOURCE: spark ignitors on gas stovetop wont stop sparking

Make sure yo haven't spilled liquid on the ignitor becuase this will cuase all ignitors to spark constantly. If all is dry, the spark module must be replaced.

SOURCE: Mantis 2-stroke tiller won't start

This could be one of several problems...
• Last year's fuel. Get some fresh gas.
• Every 2-stroke needs a new spark plug each year... you know what that means.
• Clogged carb jets due to storing the tiller over the winter with fuel in the system. Never, ever do that. Now you'll need to pull the carb apart and clean it. Most of the orifices are so tiny you can't see them. Good luck.
• Engine is so old the crankshaft seals have hardened with age. This is one reason no 2-stroke lasts longer than about 8 years. If the seals are shot, then it will cost more to fix than a new one costs. Time to toss it.

I have a old homelite that won't start new plug fresh gas no spark

Most of the time on older engines, the carb needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Dont panic rebuilding is cheap an easy. The ports get clogged up sitting an varnish up. Try to clean out all orifices with small pieces of wire from steel or brass brush. Use carb cleaner to clean replace all gaskets an parts with kit. Dont forget to check fuel hose in tank they go bad often an should be replaced when carb work is done. Fresh gas an it should work

How do I take apart the electric motor

Lets start with Symptoms. Why are you taking it apart in the first place? What was it doing? How long has it been acting up? DId it stop while you were using it? is the problem intermittent?
Electric motors get blamed for failures all the time when it is usually switches, connectors or wires that are failing.

Homelite htc 12 tiller.. motor runs ok but tines wont turn under load free wheeling they turn but under load no clutch?

Hi bh1149...
You have bad gears on the inside of the tiller gear box...
I had this same problem with mine.
You will have to take the gearbox apart in order to know what parts are bad.
Be sure to check the lube more often when you install the new gears/parts.
Go to the following website and order your parts.

I used my tiller one time and the second time I used it, it was hard to start and when she did, she blew white smoke and would not start after that.

This happens frequently after a tiller, mower, snowblower, etc. sits for a season. Your tiller is probably flooded due to a stuck carb float. You can try a quick fix by tapping gently a few times on the float bowl, then pulling the spark plug and cleaning it with a wire brush, and then wiping it dry with a cloth. If you have a new spare plug to install, that is even better.
Try to start your tiller again, and if the same thing happens, your float is still stuck and you may need to have your carb serviced.
You can try one more alternative if you do not want to go through the bother and cost of having your carb serviced (or purchasing a kit and trying to do it yourself), but it is a 50/50 "hit or miss" sometimes it works, sometimes it don't type thing:
Drain all the gas out of your tiller. put about 2 ounces of carb/injector cleaner in the tank, and top off with gas. Give the float bowl a few taps. Now, pull the spark plug..... make sure the spark plug wire is at least 1 inch away from any metal. With the throttle set to full and the spark plug removed, Pull the starter cord 5 or 6 times (if you have electric start, crank it for about 5 seconds). You may see some vapors come out through the spark plug hole- this is OK.
Clean, install, and connect your spark plug (again, a new plug is even better). Give the bowl a few taps for luck, and try and start your tiller again. If the procedure worked, your tiller may run rough for 10 or 15 seconds (maybe even up to a minute or so... let it take its course!), but then smooth out.... if it stalls, don't worry.... Start it back up.
This will often work for tillers, snowblowers, mowers, generators.... pretty much any 4 stroke "lawnmower engine". It all depends on how badly the float is stuck after the engine sits.
You can minimize having this problem in the future (it may still happen, but less often and less severe) by adding a good fuel stabilizer (such as the brand name STA-BIL) to your gas and running for 10 minutes or so before you store your "lawnmower engine" for the season.
If you still have problems, the likely cause is a stuck carb float and the carb will need to be serviced.... but hopes are high that my solution helps!
Good Luck, and Thank You for using FixYa!

Homelite String Trimmer not firing.

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen in the carb. is free of debris. Usea Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. Reassemble and start.

(NOTE: If the cleaning doesn't work, then buy a carb. kit and replace all appropriate parts.)

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Looking for a primer pump for Homelite htc12 tiller

Hi, I live in cedar rapids, Iowa. I just bought a primer bulb for my htc-12 homelite tiller. You should be able to order as many as you need, but I don't have the part #. Find out what the part # is and call this # 1-319-393-0443. They have 2 sizes, the bigger one is for the chain saws, the small one is for the tiller.( they have both) Carefully pry the plastic band off the primer bulb, press the new bulb through the band, then go get a tube of permetex weather strip adhesive ( orange box, black adhesive). Don't buy any other brand!. Lay a thin bead around the base of the bottom of the ring, press into place and let dry for a couple of hours. This adhesive works on almost any thing, and is not affected by gas, oil, or anything.
