Brand new remote on firestick and i can not open it to put batteries in it

Find the Source or Input button on the remote and scroll through all the inputs until you find a picture.

I don't think that the firestick itself has a battery. Only the remote has a battery. The firestick itself uses a separate power supply. Did someone take the power supply away?

When you sign onto Amazon. Search for your model (generation) Firestick remote. They do show several replacement models. Consider the age of your unit and how it operates before buying. We enjoy our Firestick but recently replaced it due to speed and glitches. We bought the Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD for $75. and really like it. No glitching, fast and voice control. Hope this helps. 1.Replace batteries.(in remote)
2.Get within 12 inches from firestick.
3.Press and hold home button for 10 seconds.
This should now pair with firestick, and should work.

To setup so a firestick could control my Mastertech tv when I tried element from the brands to choose from it worked like a charm for on/off control, volume and mute controls from the firestick. So you might try using Element as a brand or the codes for Element tv's. BTW, I went through several brands before I landed on Element which worked.
