Fridge compressor strarts up but turns off after a few seconds.

I have an indesit rg2251 refridgerator and the compressor motor only runs for a few seconds. It starts up about every 2mins but then turns off so the fridge is no longer getting cold. Thermostat is fine. Any suggestions welcome.

A new compressor would be more than the second hand value of the fridge so that's not an option. I've looked at the compressor in more detail and there is a small module on the side which the neutral wire feeds into which then has two m
pins leading into the compressor. There is a ceramic? plate between these two contacts which has broken - what is this? Why would it have broken (fuse?) and would replacing it fix the job or is a compressor fault causing it to break and so would still need a new compressor?
    Thanks!

My Indesit fridge does not get cold, both the Refrigerator and Freezer.

ok.. none of what you have done involved taking the back off.. if you can get to the compressor itself, you will find it has a dinky 'computer' style fan.. but invariably, some fool of a designer, runs wires very close, and uses low quality cable ties.. which break, causing the wires to spring up and jam the fan.. (especially if it has been moved recently) significantly reducing your compressors ability to chill your appliance.

get some decent cable ties, check and secure rogue wires, and things should sort themselves back to the right temperatures within a few hours.

Why does 15 amp 250 volt fuse in my lg refridgerator keep blowing

the 15 amp fuse is blowing because the current draw to run the compressor exceeds 15 amps
that problem could be from a failed start/ run capacitor or a failed compressor motor (I am betting on the capacitor)
the best answer is to get a fridge technician to check it out as the capacitor is a cheap fix while the compressor unit is as costly as a new fridge

Emerson mini Fridge will not cool. Electronics?

Sounds like the compressor starting componets or a capacitor is bad.

[email protected] my Whirlpool gold fridge freezer is working well but has started tripping the electrics in the house each time it is switched on and the motor strarts - can you help please? Chris

its either the ptc overload on the compressor body or the start winding on the compressor itself, you will need to have a person with a clamp-probe check the starting/running currents and see how large a current this unit draws at start-up and run, then if too high a draw, its probably a bad compressor motor winding

When my refridgerator is turned on, within seconds it switches off and continues this way at regular intervals, on off, on off, on off. what could be the problem?

Remove the rear cover and see if the compressor is really hot, also, if there is a fan in close poximity to the compressor is running. There will also be some black coils that will be warm to the touch; whether on the bottom of the fridge, back of fridge or a jelly roll style on the right side of the compartment. Check to see if the coils are clean.
If the compressor runs for about 30 seconds and you hear a click; you may have a failed relay or overload and will have to be replaced. Also, it could be a failed compressor that will have to be replaced by an authorized servicer.

My refrigerator turns on and off i hear clicking sound.the compressor dont stops and then after a few seconds it runs again

my parents have a ge refridgerator tfx27e that is not cooling as of this morning. we had repair place out and they said the compressor is bad. per his words, he tested it and said electric is going to the compressor, but when it tries to turn on, something inside is stopping it so it won't run, needs new compressor.

the issue is, this is in a custom kitchen and the fridge has wood paneling on the front and matches everything nicely. i'm afraid a new fridge will never work with the panels made for this one?

it it worth fixing? i'm also pretty handy, but the repair guy said it's a 5 hour job. advice?

Fridge question

Sounds like you mad have a bad relay or overload on the compressor. I would also check your condenser fan motor to make sure its running and blowing air on the compressor to cool it. If its not running the compressor may be overheating and shutting off on its overload. If the condenser fan motor is running I would assume that you would need a new relay and overload it will come in a kit. Usually it will make a clicking sound when the compressor is TRYING to start and then shuts off on its overload if the start components are bad.
Hope this helps _MJ_

My refridgerator runs but does not stay cold.

First you can try cleaning out all the dirt, dust and debris from around the compressor. Second try to recharge the freon in the unit. Third you can probably have the compressor tested it may be weak and neeb of replacement. In most cases it's cheaper to replace the refridgerator............

Kenmore Trio: the refridgerator is not getting cool

In the Freezer or Fridge compartment, there is the Evaporator Fan (& Motor) If the freezer is cold, the Evaporator fan motor most likely went bad. Check to see that when the compressor is running, so should be the fan motor. If not, you have to remove it & replace it. It is not an expensive repair unless you call for service on it. Make sure that you unplug the fridge when you replace the fan motor.

Indesit fridge freezer not getting cold (2 years old)

I would first check to see if the evaporator in the freezer is all iced up. If it is thats whay you do not have any cooloing. And If that is the case you have a defrost problem and it is not short on gas. If you see only a few coils on the evaporator frosted up then you do have a leak in the system and my be covered under the manufactures warrenty.
