  1. Log into your router. (If you need help how to do it let me know!)
  2. Go to th "Application & Gaming" tab.
  3. click on "DMZ"
  4. choose "Enable"
  5. Enter the IP address of the computer you want to put in the DMZ.
  6. Click "Save Settings"
Some notes:
  • Putting a computer in a DMZ is pretty risky, because all ports to this computer are opened. Make sure that all recent patches are applied and your virus software is up to date! A more secure solution is to use portforwarding. (See this site how to do that for a specific software for your router.)
  • Your computer should be set to a static IP. For two reasons:
  • A) DMZ will not work if your DHCP server (your router) assigns at one point a different IP address to your computer,
  • B) If a different computer gets the Ip address assigned that you specified in your DMZ settings, then that machine is exposed.
If you don't know how to assign a static IP address, let me know and I walk you through the steps.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

i need help with step one!

  • C. Dante

    Look at koyut's solution:
Step 1 Open your web browser, type "http://192.168.1.1 " into the address bar and hit "Enter."
Step 2 If you have not changed the default values, then try (depending on your exact model) the following variations:
Username / Password: admin / [empty]
Username / Password: admin / admin
Username / Password: [empty] / admin
Username / Password: [empty] / [empty]

If this does not help, seehttp://www.routerpasswords.com/index.asp - this might help if you have a special version.
If you still can't get into your router, you have to reset it to factory defaults. This will erase all you individual settings though!
The reset button will clear the stored login information and reset your router to factory default.
Make sure you hold that button for about 15-20 seconds before you release it. After you did this, you can access your router again via the default IP address of 192.168.1.1

One tip - this is what I did after entering all that information (wireless security, port forwarding etc.) again:
I went to each screen and took a snapshot of that window (Press ALT PrintScreen). This screenshot I copied into a Word document and repeated these steps with all important windows. Now I have a little "manual" in case I have to reset my router again and can't remember my "fancy" settings.
If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

How can I get the router IP of my Linksys 2.4GHz broadband router?

The Linksys G router gives you both wired and wireless connections over a broadband Internet connect to create a local area network. The Linksys router is compatible with wireless G and B devices, through the 2.4-GHz wireless band. The wireless speed is at 54 megabytes per second and you can get 100 megabytes per second with a wired connection. You have to set up the wireless configuration on the Linksys before using it on your network.

Plug the router's power cable into an electrical outlet. Attach an Ethernet cable into the Internet port on the back of the router. Connect the other end into your broadband modem. Connect your computer to the Linksys G using another Ethernet cable. This Ethernet cable can go into any of the wired router ports. Open your Internet browser. Type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and hit "Enter." This is your router's IP address and the home of its Web configuration page. Click "Wireless." Click "Manual." Alter your SSID, also known as your network name. You can change this name to any value that you want. You can also change the wireless channel if you are in an area with many wireless connections that may interfere. Click "Save Changes." Click "Wireless Security." Choose an encryption method to encrypt your wireless transmissions. WPA or WPA2 are common security protocols you can use in wireless networks. Input a network key, also known as the network password. Click "Save Changes."

How to input dmz on wireless g broadband router

HI, It's really easy. Connect to your router via web browser. (prob. 192.168.1.1) after you typed the username and password then go to "Application and Gaming" tab. Then you are going to see a sub-tab to your right called "DMZ". Then enable it and type the IP address of your computer. Please keep in mind your computer (or the computer you need the DMZ for) has to have Static IP, meaning you have to manually configure it on the computer. I hope this helps

WIFI not working with Linksys wireless-g broadband router/Comcast

Unplugging the wireless router and connecting it again should not have altered the wireless connection/configuration. You have connected the cables correctly because the Internet works when you connect a LAN cable to the router.
The Linksys wireless configuration or the wireless card configuration in the computer was changed it to lose the wireless connection. The wireless card configuration needs to be changed to match the wireless router's settings or change the Linksys with new configuration settings and configure the wireless card accordingly.
To secure your router with a login password and wireless security, please follow my instructions - click on this link :-

The Linksys Wireless-G is ALREADY wireless. Do you have any computers with 802.11g network cards? Laptops usually have these. Make sure you have properly configured the router, because if it is NOT correctly done then things may not work too well.
