I have a Sony CDP-CX300 that needs the two rubber O-ring type drive belts replaced. I have the repalcement belts but the longer one seems impossible to get to/reach. Can anyone explain how to do this?
Thank you.
The Sony call center says the two belts are the same size. Supposedly, there is a third belt "under the motor board" but I have not been able to find it. That is the 42x1.2 (4219362601). The two easy ones to replace are 421606101 and only cost 1.95 from Sony.
This unit uses 2 identical "carousel drive belts" which wear out after about 10 years old. They can be replaced with medium thickness rubber bands that are slightly smaller than the original belts used, about 2 inches in diameter. Simple rubber bands will work fine, but they need to be about 1/8" in width and smaller in diameter than the originals to fit correctly.
You may need to use a bent up paper clip to grab/hook the new band and stretch it into place around 2 pulleys that provide the drive to turn the main carousel. Unplug power while you are disassembling your unit
To replace them, remove the screws that hold on the cover, and the screws that hold the main and back circuit boards onto the case, that's about 20 screws (!). Not too difficult once these circuit boards are out of your way. Notice the boards uncover the 2 areas where these drive belts are located, now you can take out the original belts and replace with stronger, tighter rubber bands. Now your unit works again.
I have the same unit apart right now and although by now you've likely figured it out, I don't think there is a third longer belt, the carousel is gear driven by one of the short belts and a series of gears. The underside of the edge of the carousel is one big gear.
I got 2 belts from Studio Sound Electronics changed them but table won't align properly, stops in between discs. I went to service manuals.net and downloaded a service manual. Yes, there is a third belt under the table (carousel). It operates the door and disc pop up mechanism. Looks like you have to completely disassemble the unit to change it. There is mechanical adjustment for the optical sensor that locates the table properly. The manual also says to perform an electrical adjustment of it with an O scope after the mechanical adjustment. Most of it is pretty technical. May have to take to a pro if I don't get lucky with the mechanical adj. alone.....or I'll have to buy a scope and enroll in technical school.
More help here--- thanks.
