Do i have to hook a camera up to dvr to play back recored video

I understand, if you are able to record on the SD card, make your computer to recognize it and lastly if you can transfer it successfully with no errors, we can make it to work by choosing an appropriate media player. Still if you are not able to open/run the media file. Let me know the type of file. I ll then according do a research and suggest a specific codec or a player that will support the file type.
File type can be found be right-clicking on the file and selecting Properties.
