HELLO
I have had this problem quite a few times and I will explain. In the laser pick-up of a DVD player it is, in fact, TWO lasers in one block. One plays CD/MP3 discs and other plays DVD's. It's more than likely that the CD laser has gone faulty which means you can only play DVD.
I have also had the reverse problem of it only plays CD's and not DVD. If you are not too upset that you cannot play CD's then just use it as a DVD player. If you want you can try to clean the lens of the laser block, but it's unlikely that will cure it.
You have two options. Use it as a DVD player only or get the optical block replaced, but it will cost you just as much as another DVD player if not more!
Hope this helps :-).

Why doesn't CD play?

try a CD with no scratches?
to test a player, one most try many CDs
to truly test it. (a new CD is best ! or scratch free)

next the WORD CD means nothing much, round disc, sure
on such a very old car 2002 CD means this.
plays, ONLY!
CDDA (compact disk, digital audio)
means only store bought disks work. CDDA.

The never works list:
MP3 discs or other music formats common today.
in fact can't play file formatted music.
CDR
CDRW
DVD of any kinds
Bluray

when new, the car had a book on this head end.(in glove box)
stating what it would play, NOT MUCH. CDDA for sure. works and is to be checked first.
much later , it can play many newer formats..
go to walfart , buy any CDDA, off shelf.
try that. see if those work first.
I like Country Joe and the Fish....

When i insert a CD, it won't accept it, "disc error" appears. What is the solutions.

hello there soenensistva
Well first of all Compact discs are easy to be read by a DVD player then ordinary Cd player cause of their lens are made for more compressed Data discs..there for try some of the options

1. make sure that the disc Surface is Clean and don't have finger prints or any other material that is disturbing the the read process between the CD and lens present inside CD player

2.if your CD is precious for you ( that consist some important Data you may need ) then try a DVD player for that

3.if both things doesn't work try a cleaning Cd for Cleaning the Head of CD player .

i wish that your problem may be solved
Best Regards

Try to play a disk and an error oo4 comes up

The player doesn't like the brand of CDR your playing. Try using just a CD burner instead of a combo CD/DVD burner. Also use Verbatim Pastel brand, because the player recognizes these discs easier. Also, it wouldn't hurt for you to run a commercial disc laser cleaner through this thing to clean the optical lens. Burn music using Nero software because its easy and the best.
