SOURCE: I broke the flex drive shaft but can't remove the

The flex shaft drive you are referring to is only sold as a assy that I am aware of. You can try www.partstree.com for the replacement shaft assy. you are refering to, however you may find out by the time you buy a new shaft assy you may be money ahead just buying a new trimmer.

How do you remove the cutting head on a troy bilt tb625ec

I have the original cutting head on my TB625EC, which was starting to go bad. I ordered a new head but the new head design will NOT fit on the older shaft, they had redesigned the lower shaft along the way. So I ordered a new bottom shaft assembly from ereplacement parts along with the cutting head and everything fits now. The old cutting heads are no longer available from Troy Bilt/MTD.

I am trying to replace the head on my TB575EC trimmer but can't remove the black inner spool. Any suggestions?

Unscrew the head's center bump-knob counterclockwise with your fingers. Pull the bump knob off and take the spool cover off the head. Slide out the spool and any remaining cutting line. Lift out the spring underneath the spool. Take out the slide washer. Unscrew the arbor bolt either clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on model, in the center of the trimmer head using the wrench. Take the entire head off the end of the shaft.

I was given a used 31cc trimmer but can't get the spool off to replace it. how do i do this?

A typical trimmer has a small bump knob, an inner spool with the plastic string wound on it and the housing for that which is the string head.To remove the small bump knob, hold string head firmly and turn the bump knob counterclockwise. To remove the head entirely, first remove the bump knob. Next, remove the inner spool with string. What should be left is the spring with the end of the gear shaft showing. Some heads are locked on and some just slip over the end of the shaft. Check the gear drive just above the string head for any holes in the collar. An object can be placed in one of the holes to lock the drive and twist the head off.Ryobi's use retaining clips on the shaft which have to be removed.

The cutting cord has disappeared into the strimmer. How do i GET IT OUT AGAIN?

Hold the complete string head assembly. Grasp the little black bump knob on the very bottom and turn it counterclockwise. Then the spool that holds the line must be turned to clear the locking plastic tabs and you can remove it and get to the string again. Sometimes the bump knob (little black one) gets really tight and large pliars (channel locks) can be used to grab it and turn it.

How do I remove the cutting head on my homelite HLT=15

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/homelite-hlt15-ut20602-string-trimmer-parts-c-18807_20299_21185.html

Here is a diagram of it. It is reverse threaded so you have to turn it like you was tightening it to loosen it. Clockwise looking at it from the bottom of the head. But there is a clutch that will let the whole thing turne. The best way is to remove the shaft from the weedeater and hold the shaft with some vice grips. Or you may be able to hold it right above the head, before the shaft tube.

How do u remove the bump feed spool from the bump feed string head on my ryobi gas trimmer

Grasp the outer portion of the cutting head in your left hand and turn the inner knob with your right. Depending on model, some bump knobs are threaded and some are post and notch. Use a little spray like wd40 to loosen the mechanism. It may take a firm hand, but the two will separate so that you can reload the line. Consider reloading with the .095 five sided line. It cuts much easier than the round line.

Remove the trimmer head from shaft

The entire trimmer assembly (from the gearbox forward) will slide off of the drive shaft cover. On the side of the aluminum gearbox assembly, you will find a single screw. This is the "anti-rotation screw" (do not lose this). Then remove the small (approximately 1" diameter) clamp from the end of the gear box assembly and simply pull the entire cutting assembly off of the shaft.

If you just want to remove the trimmer bump head assembly, then you will need to lock the bump head assembly to prevent rotation while you are working. If you purchased this new, then there should be a small metal rod included with your accessories. This will fit in a small hole in the base of the gear box assembly 791-182193 and prevents the trimmer head from rotating.

Then proceed to remove the following items:

791-180814B (replaces 791-180814) Bump Head Knob Assembly
791-147495 Inner Reel (hold the trimmer string)
791-610636B (replaces 791-610636) Spring
791-612026 Retainer (be careful removing this so you do not inadvertently destroy it). If you intend to reuse the trimmer head. If not, then hack, pry, stab, etc.. until you mangle it enough to remove.
791-683301 Outer Spool & Eyelet Assembly should now slide out leaving only 791-612483
Spool Shaft which I will assume that you want to keep.

I replaced my entire string head assembly a couple of years ago (and subsequently misplaced it and am in fact wanting to purchase one) and replaced it with a grass-gater or similar.

I hope this helps.
