I have a bad smell coming from my refrigerator and I have already taken the back off and cleaned it. This frige is was only 4 months old when the smell started. Some days you can hardly smell it at all and other days it’s really bad all day. Weird I know! The bottom of the frige looks sealed off and idk if I should take that apart. We thought maybe a rodent died in that compartment bc we couldn’t get to it, but it has been 5 months and it should not still be smelling at this point. Please help!!

I am fairly sure that is from mold. I myself would use Biocide 100 (Qt) , spray the interior and leave closed for a few hours, then ventilate. For mold to grow it needs air, food, and warmth (subjective). It sounds like it has been off and allowed to warm up. The food is obvious because of its use.
no refrigerant leaks have little to no odor and if it was leaking bad enough to smell it the unit would be out of refrigerant and not cooling...the problem sounds like gases coming off of a veggie of something un-covered inside the fridge--have you put any veggies in the fridge or freezer un-covered check real good if one or a piece of something has fallen behind something else where you cannot see...all else fails remove all your products from the unit and clean and get a box of odor control arm&hammer to rid the smell..as for a leak in the sealed system i think your just fine.
Any drippings in back may cause a funny smell with water settling behind the refrigerator. Pull your refrigerator out from the wall and trace the smell. Maybe your waterline needs to be cleaned.
I had the same problem, but just fixed it. I have a maytag bottom freezer and when the fan blower comes on, there was a foul/stale smell that permeated the kitchen. There is no drip pan that I could remove to clean.
I just removed four screws from the back cover of the fan blower area, reached in with a small cup of organic odor remover and poured it into the drip pan just under the fan blower.
Any odor remover would work. probably vinegar or enzyme odor remover would work, too.
I now have fresh smell when the fan blower comes on.
You have a couple possibilities. Either something spilled in the frig and ran down into the drip pan or you have a dead critter under there. The pan is not removable and cleaning it is a pain. take a good look under there from the back and the front. Eric

if you hold the two top buttons on the right and left side of the display for 4 to 5 seconds it will reset the control board and it should restart, if not check the door switch for a bad connection. I had the same problem and i cleaned the contacts on that switch and reset the controller and no problems since. (2 months and counting!)
