Check for stuck paper and remove if any. Then check if motor is ok with a multimeter and also main switch.

SOURCE: Our shredder is making a loud, grinding noise.

simply try resetting the machine. unplugging it waiting for about 30 seconds then plugging it back in, also is the unit mounted properly on the unit? It might be one of the gears that is not broken...if you have a warranty now would be a good time to call them as they will fix or replace the part for the unit.

SOURCE: the shredder will run in reverse but will not run foreward.

Inside the shredder there is a motor which is wired to run both forward and backward, the way it does this is to transfer the power from the switch to a couple of wires on the motor
The forward running motor will be linked to the auto start button which will tell it to work with the paper sensor.
When you select the Forward function the Auto Start is taken out of circuit and the Forward switch should supply the motor

After all of that I would say that the switch is open circuit on the Forward contact and needs replacing

SOURCE: Shredder Jams with more than 1 piece of paper thickness

I have seen paper shreds build up inside the cutter housing on this model. It grows into a big tumor inside and places a lot of resistance. You will have to take it apart and clean it thoroughly. Also, oiling the cutter asm.

Omnitech shredder ot-nxc10pa

You must first unplug it and look inside the shredding blades, especially around the spot usually near the center, where there is a pressure button. When paper hits it, it starts shredding. Chances are some pieces of paper have jammed just over it stopping paper from hitting it and switching it on. I have had to use long tweezers to work the jammed bits out... Once clear it will work again. Also using shredder oil every 50 sheets through will help it cut easier , and jam less frequently. Do not put too many sheets through together in a bunch. No staples...

Can not feed paper

First try moving the switch manually to reverse. The machine should start. This may cause some paper to appear in the slot where you place the paper to be shredded. If it doesn't start, your problem may be more serious or complex and you should get in touch with the Staples store where you purchased it.
It may be that the paper you are trying to use is too lightweight. Try inserting a piece of cardboard (SLOWLY SO AS NOT TO LET THE BLADES CATCH THE CARDBOARD - LETTING IT CATCH THE CARDBOARD MAY BE BEYOND THE UNIT'S CAPACITY). If this starts the shredder, quickly remove the cardboard. If it continues to run (cycle), you may have had some paper blocking it.
Hopefully this has done the trick and everything now works. If not, talk to the Staples store where you bought it.

My Staples SPL-1524CP shredder stopped shredding although the green light is on. I unplugged it for a while, emptied the bin, etc., then plugged back in and it started working again. I ran a lubricant...

There is a small micro switch in the slot where you insert the paper, have a look and find it, it may be jammed with a piece of paper or bend. Wd40 might help

Royal 85x crosscut shredder stopped working

Some shredders aren't designed to shred anything more than paper. Credit cards, staples, paper clips and the like could have jammed it up. Try running the shredder in reverse and oiling the blades. More help with paper shredder oil here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Paper-Shredder-Oil

If you can't get the paper shredder up and running, it looks like you might have to pick up a new paper shredder. Paper shredders can be pretty cheap though, great guide to cheap paper shredders here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Best-Paper-Shredders

Shredder is jammed

hello. follow these steps:

  1. Turn the shredder off at the wall and unplug it. You DO NOT want to be poking round in those sharp blades and have it accidentally switch on!
  2. Take the top off the shredder and place it on a big piece of newspaper, or somewhere you can easily sweep up mess.
  3. Begin by getting a pair of tweezers and taking pieces of paper from one end of the shredding blades. This will loosen it up and give you more room to get the rest out.
  4. Carry on tugging the strips of paper out. It helps if you don't just pull a clump, but wiggle it from side to side. This will get the whole strip out, not just the top.
  5. If any pieces are curled round and you can't free them, cut them with the knife and then tug them out.
  6. Once it's mostly cleared, put the top back on and switch the shredder on. Put it on Reverse mode so it will spit the last bits back up for you to remove.
  7. If it's clear, continue shredding!

[edit] Tips
  • Remember to wiggle the paper, not just pull.
  • Shake it occasionally to get smaller pieces of paper out of the blades.
  • Try not to jam it in the first place (avoid loading a lot of paper or thick sheets of newspaper).
  • Use oil paper or performance oil to lubricate the blades on a regular basis. For an office shredder, medium to heavy usage can require lubrication as often as every three days.
  • To prevent the shredder blades from dulling, remove paper clips and staples before shredding. Shredding CDs and DVDs also cause premature wear & tear. Use the Disc Eraser (www.DiscEraser.com) if you have sensitive discs.

[edit] Warnings
  • Always turn the shredder off at the wall and unplug it! You don't want shredded fingers!
  • Be careful with the blades - they are sharp and you could cut yourself.

[edit] Things You'll Need
  • A pair of tweezers
  • A small, sharp knife
