More than likely there is something under the deck that is caught in the blades, you should be able to reach under the tractor with it turned off and roatate the blades manually by hand to clear the blades. if nothing is caught in the blades then something is bound up on top of your deck and needs to be re-aligned

SOURCE: craftman 42 inch riding mower deck shakes and make noise

I just had this happen on one of my riding mowers. The spindle bearing seized up and broke the spindle housing. I replaced the spindle, spindle bearings, and spindle housing. This solved my problem. Prior to the bearing seizing the deck was making lots of noise. If the blade hit something, the blade may have been bent and needs to be replaced. Another thing to check is that the belt is routed correctly. This can happen when you install a new belt. Operating the mower in the current condition will wear the belt out fast. I once routed the belt over a belt guide instead of under it. My mower ran, but it wasn't long and my belt was shot. An expensive lesson.

SOURCE: When I engage the PTO, the blades don't egage.

The first thing we need to to do is verify that there is adequate /(power 12 vdc) going to the electric clutch, you can do this by unplugging the clutch and check both wires 1 should have 12 volts and the other wire shoud read infinity to ground if this checks out replace the clutch, if you dont have 12vdc to the wire replace the relay

My blades won't engage on my ariens icon after it was cutting just fine. I accidentally killed the mower and tried to engage the blades and they won't niw

If you killed the motor by jamming the blades, the mower belt may have come off or broke. Check to see if it is still in place. Also with the engine off, turn the blades by hand and see if the upper pullies turn.

I have a 52" Husqvarna LGT 2654 riding lawn mower and when I engage the blades, the belt does not turn the pulley system. What could be causing this, the pulley idlers, or the belt?

depending on the age of the machine, there could be several possibilities
1-- belts are not tight enough--- belt tension system is not correct, wrong length belts
2--bearings for the shafts for the blades are rusted up and seized - preventing the blades from moving--- switch the machine off , disengage the belt drive and see if you can turn the blades by hand
3--- if you have an electric pto system to drive the belts to the blades then that system is not getting full power to engage the PTO or the clutch is not working--worn facings
take it to a service dealer and have a proper diagnosis done

My neighbor and I just changed the blades on my Wizard riding mower. (The nuts were hard to loosen!) I bought new blades and we put them back on in the same direction as the old ones. I fired up the...

Sounds to me like the belt is too tight and not grabbing, the squealing noise is the sound of motor pulley spinning on the belt. This could also happen if belt is worn out. I'd try adjusting the belt. Hope this helps.

Mtd engage blades it smokes and make noise

Have you physically moved each blade by hand (with the machine shut-off),spark plug disconnected to see if both or all of the cutting blades move freely if there is any binding you probably have a bad blade spindle bearing . If those move o.k. then you're going to want to check the pulleys on top of the deck, one of these which do not go to the blades may possibly have a bad bearing and is not moving freely causing the belt to be burning up.

When I engage the mower blades it makes a nasty noise, like a bad bearing. I checked the brakes, belts, etc and all is well. Any thoughts?

hi there mrswp211

check out the pulleys from the pto to the deck for noise - if rumbly / noisy replace them , if not
remove pto to deck belt ( make note of belt routing 1st ) then rotate blades and spindles by hand give a good spin you should hear if noisy , grab blades and try to move them fore/ aft to see have movement if they do and they are not smooth and quite spindle bearings are the problem

generally if unit is noisy only when deck engaged bearings will cause this

but make sure pulleys on the top of eack spindle good to and everything is tight
a badly slipping vee belt will make a squeeling noise and somtimes will make the unit shudder

you will have to remove deck to replace bearing(s) , from experience replace mandrell/ spindle assys do both at same time because if one has gone the other wont be far behind - both do same milage and work and quite often if replace bearings only they dont go back in tight .

cheers hope it helps

I have a Huskee Supreme Model # 13AX605H730. I have

According to MTD Parts Lookup:
The correct UPPER belt (referred to as the PTO belt and runs from engine to deck) is part # 754-04122 (Also available as 954-04122...in which only the packaging of the part makes the first digit of the part number change. The two belts are identical.)

The correct Description is:
[ Belt, V-Type, A x 90.24 ]

What that means in plain English is that this is a 1/2 inch wide V-Belt with an Industry Standard "A" cross sectional profile. The more important info would be that it's 90.24 inches long.

As for the "Deck Belt" (the lower belt that runs only from blade to blade to blade) it is listed as part #754-0349 or #954-0349 (again, identical belts, different packaging).

A very common problem we see in my shop is that the front pulley (the one directly attached to the engine) shows signs of separation at the weld and the grovve of the pulley becomes wider, therefore making the belt "act" like it's longer because it runs deeper in that groove.

Reply by using the "Add Comments" section if you need any futher info. I'd be glad to offer other possibilities for these symptoms you've described.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

When deck is lowered blades do not engage

Is the belt in place that drives the blades?
Is the belt at the correct tension?
With the mower engine off.....try to turn each pulley the belt drives and on the mower deck with the mower in up position and or down....do they turn a little......this is to check for a seized bearing on one of the pulleys also look under the deck for something stuck........ jamming a blade.
Also check for the mower belt safety system (which stops the blades quickly when disengaging them) that may be stuck in stop mode.
With the mower engine running.....have some one engage the blades while you look under at the belt system....is the engine driving the belt.....is the belt driving the blades.
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING......MOVING OR STOPPED while the engine is trying to drive the blades.

Engine chokes & dies when deck PTO engaged...

you need to start with your electric clutch and then backwards to your idler pulleys and deck spindles and bearings.
your electric clutch should almost stop the blades instantly when disengaged ,check the center bolt in the clutch to be sure it is tight also
remove the belt from the electric clutch and energize clutch any noise? sometimes the bearing goes bad in the clutch itself.
check all of your 3 spindles for noise and loose. remove belt and spin by hand and listen for quiet and they should turn free with no binding
check blade tightness
any item the belt goes around needs to be looked at for secure and operable.
