It like all other trimmers has a bump feeder on it. all you have to do is bump the head of the trimmer on the ground as it's running to let out more string. if the string has broken off and retracted into the head you will need to pull apart the head and let out some more string before you can continue however. it will only let the string out if its still sticking out from the hole it's supposed to be dispensed from.

SOURCE: Installing new line on my string grass trimmer

Cut two separate pieces of string, about 7 ft. each.

Stick the end of the line in the hole on the inside of spool.

Wind clockwise onto spool, putting the line that is closest to the ground on first.

Once you have winded this piece on, lock the last 4 inches of line through the slits on spool.

Repeat process for second piece of line, locking the last 4 inches in slot opposite the other locked in piece.

Put the spool on the trimmer, feeding the end of lines through either hole on trimmer.

Before you push the spool all the way on, pull the strings out of the locked position.

SOURCE: homelite st 155 pull cord wont pull out

this works by a spring, and there are 4 bearings in a clutch that help it to engage. Through wear and tear this can get to where it just doesn't work well anymore and needs cleaned. Remove the four screws that attach the motor to the clutch assembly. This will give access to the pull cord. Remove and be careful for the spring likes to shoot out when you remove the 4 tabs that hold the spool in. Clean, lubricate, reinstall, and you should be back to trimming.

SOURCE: repairing fuel line on craftsman 32cc weed trimmer.

Cut the end of the line at a sharp angle. Spray WD-40 on the line and fuel tank hole. Slowly screw the line in the tank far enough so you can connect the fuel filter if you are replacing that line. If not just push the line into the tank if you have a two line system. Remember on the fuel primer, the long tip has the line going to the tank, and the short tip has the fuel line going to the carb.

SOURCE: fuel mix ratio for poulan counter vibe 3400 chain

Oil Mix Ratio: (last 5-10 years)
Dolmar, Echo, Efco, Homelite, Husqvarna, Jonsered, Makita, Oleo-Mac, Red Max, Ryobi, Shindaiwa, Solo, Spear & Jackson, Stihl & Tanaka; all recommend 50:1.
1 gallon of premium fuel to 2.6 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
4 liters of premium fuel to 80 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
McCulloch, Poulan & Wen; recommend 40:1.
1 gallon of premium fuel to 3.2 ounces of quality 2-cycle oil.
4 liters of premium fuel to 100 milliliters of quality 2-cycle oil.
Chinese chainsaws recommend 25:1.

If me I would have the Poulan tweaked to run properly on 50:1 and use that in both. It will start easier and take much longer to carbon foul.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.

Automatic line advance not advancing on Ryobi 18v trimmer

I have a Ryobi Model RY28040 straight shaft line trimmer. In my case I replaced the complete String Head Assembly that includes the String Head Housing, Spring, and Spool and the string still did not advance. I then discovered that the bolt in the Spool Retainer cap (the red cap that attaches the spool to the shaft) was fused and not moving. The bolt needs to be loose inside the cap in order to allow the spool to move in and out by the spring. I loosened the bolt and fastened the spool back onto the shaft. Fired it up and bumped it a few times and the line began to advance. Turns out I probably only needed to replace the Spool Retainer rather than the String Head Assembly.

I have a 27cc Craftsman 2-cycle weed trimmer, dual line, bump advance. I haven't got the manual and don't know how to get the bottom off to replace the line. I have pushed and twisted, but it...

Hi there, I just came across your post while looking for my own answers.

If you haven't yet found the answer, try this: Hold the spool immobile and twist the knob counter-clockwise. If your machine is like mine the knob will simply twist off (it is on a threaded shank that goes into the reel cover.)

If you have the model number, the manual is probably available on ManageMyLife.com at http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals

Weed eater line won't advance.

I know it may sound stupid but on the spool their should be arrows that direct you which way to wind the line if you just added line. Some think one goes one way and the other goes the opposite but they both go around the spool in the same way and do not go in the knotches at the top just out the holes. Make sure the spring did not fall out of spool if their is one in that model and while it is running just tap the bottom of the spool on the ground. If that does not work more than likely when you pushed the line back up into the shaft to screw on the knob the line is pinched between the two holding slots. Turn the trimmer upside down (while off) and push knob in and pull line on both sides to advance line. If line does not come out your line is wound wrong or twisted inside spool and must be untangled and reattached. Both lines run the same direction on spool!

How do you add trimmer line to Troy Bilt TB539E Weed Eater?

This model trimmer uses .095" diameter line, your local home improvement store will carry replacement line and it will also carry a replacement spool with the line already spooled on it.

This trimmer is a "bump advance" trimmer meaning you bump the head on the ground while it is spinning to advance line out.

What to do to replace the line is place the trimmer on a stable flat surface (like a workbench), raise up the head if the trimmer and unscrew the cap and CAREFULLY remove the spool...you do not want to lose the spring! Take a look at the spool, it will show the direction to spool the line, spool the line then replace the spool by first putting the spring back on the shaft, then put the end of the line through the hole(s) on the side of the outer head, press the spool in place and screw the cap back on.

Of course you can eliminate about 90% of the headaches by buying a pre-spooled head at your local home improvement store...then you follow the directions above and can skip the spooling part. Cheers!
