Hp 15-ac151dx Need directions on how to replace led back cover. Mine cracked when dropped. I have a new one with hinges, but no instructions. Thanks, Norm

this is a simple 15-20 min job with minimal tools needed , the list

1 medium flat head screwdriver or pocket knife
1 T25 torx head driver/start driver
glass cleaner and paper towels
1 new 3rd brake light ( a given) w211 03-05 part number A211820 15 56


Just pop out the 9 black plasitc caps with the screwdriver and remove . then remove the cap in each side hinge ,it is easier if you pop off the small latch on the trunk hinge plasic covers as well. Take out the 6 star screws holding on the hard plastic trunk cover over the latch. the carpet piece now just pulls down. you do need to pull it towards the front of the car due to the handles on the inside not really an issue it just slips down , then disconnect the button and then remove.the small light I just push it thru and then pulled it back thru carefully its more difficult to disconnect. Now the 3rd brake light has 2 plastic tabs the stick out. you need to push these to the outward you can see how they hold on then carefully remove the back black LED part . you will need to wiggle it and then slide it to the Left side and drop out the Right end first. Then disconnect on Left side. took about 15 mins-20 mins first time.
The part comes complete with new a Red light cover. It also seems to have a better looking gasket than the one that came on it. The hardest part is removing the old lens cover. I used a screw driver and pressed in the soft metal tabs on the front side you can see, then just used my finger on the back side of the tab to let it slip outward working from one end to the next. keep you new lens oriented in the right direction when putting the new one one. You do not bend any tabs on the new one. make sure you clean the surface real well , so It can adhere and create a water tight seal. slip the plug in and then put the LED portion on sliding it in on the Left side fist. then flipping up over the grey tabs then make sure you pull the black tabs back to the center I pushed in on the light from the outside to help keep a tight fit. Works great. you can only check it if you turn the ignition on like your going to start the car.

I used an offset cabinet hinge & screwed it into the body of the printer, & the cover. The offset has to be jiggled a bit to open, but works fine on closing.
Otherwise, HP wants you to buy a complete new scanner cover.

The left hinge breaks often enough that Brother changed the part number of the part. I hope that means the new part is stronger; I haven't seen one come back for a second repair. Assuming it's the larger, left hinge that's broken (It always is.), you need an LP2403001 HINGE ASSY L. You can find it from a servicing dealer or online, and it's easy to replace.

Look at the back of the machine and find two large phillips screws in holes. They keep the hinge blocks from coming up all the way out of the machine. Remove both of them and lift the top cover up until it's connected only by its cable. It might take a helper to hold the cover, but you need to unscrew the hinge assy. from the top. The three screws are obvious and easy to reach now that the cover is loose. Put the new hinge on, lower the top back down so the hinges drop into their holes, and put those screws back into the holes in back. You're done.

Typically there are two screws on each hinge that is mounted inside the back of the laptop. You'll have to get the top indicator panel off to get to the connector(s) coming from the LCD. The usual process is unclip the wiring harneses and then remove the screws, and the screen and hinges come out. Replacement is the reverse.

Some laptops you have to remove the entire top of the laptop (keyboard/touchpad first, then the cover assembly. Others you can just pop the rear button cover (usually where the LED indicators and power button are located) and access the LCD connectors there. Best way is to go to HP and find the service manual information which will tell you how to remove that specific piece of hardware.

Let me know if you find a source for replacements. In the mean time, I kept my unit working by just removing the broken top half of the hinge.
You have to remove 5 screws using a TORX T10 screwdriver. First remove the small plate covering the back of hinge on the outside. Then remove the two vertical screws at the top of the hinge up under the hinge lip. Then open the cover (be careful to hold it in place so as not to damage the three flex connections between the lid and body) and remove the other two screws at the top of the hinge. Remove the broken top half of the hinge and lower the cover back down. Until you find a replacement hinge, you can put a piece of heavy duty tape on the back where the hinge was.

Here is the response that I got from Verizon customer service today via e-mail. I, too, have the broken hinge on a new LG VX8350:

"According to our records a limited number of LG VX8350 devices may exhibit a cracked hinge or stress cracks on the front housing from normal operation. LG determined hinge / stress cracking is due to a production issue with the hinge. LG has implemented corrective action to resolve issue in future production and devices repaired by LG."

They are replacing the phone with a certified LG. All in all, I am very pleased with their commitment to customer service. I would suggest contacting Verizon directly and letting them know that you are aware of the hinge problems.

The parts you're looking for are called "display panel hinges" You can buy these parts from compaq/hp directly, but personally, I would call, find out the part number and try to find a cheaper place to purchase them. A detailed video on removing the LCD panel completely can be found here. This will show you how to remove the broken hinges, and on the left side of the page, you can select videos that will show you how to do practically everything else. To get your replacement parts go to the compaq website (I couldn't find the part without the serial) or call 1-800-227-8164. There is also a live chat option once you go to the support section of the website. You may be able to rig the display so it works without buying a part, but now that you have the information, it's up to you. I hope this helps!

You can get replacement parts for this laptop, however it can get expensive. At the end of the day, you can use a super glue that is safe to use around electrical parts, but you might be better off just using an external monitor if you don't need to carry your laptop around.

Its the LCD backcover assembly that is cracked.
