Too much connected load. The 4000 watt rating is only for short term loads. Generally you should not exceed 80% of the rating for long term connected loads.

Power is not a linear function so the specified approximate 17 hour run time at 1/4 load will not give you over 6 hrs at 3500 watts.

A continous maximum 3500W load will consume approximately 1 gallon/hour.

You have to manage your load and more importantly not overload the unit as it will shorten the life expectancy.

I have to leave a comment for cfa6094. Your pretty good at flexing your cyber muscles. I am a service tech in the repair field and deal with people like you all the time. If you are the owner of the equipment you should properly maintain your equipment. Sounds like you are not very organized. Sound more like crises management to me. Is mrfixit the only person you asked about this problem? One more thing, sound like you are a bit of a procrastinator to me. LOOK AT ME NO SPELL CHECK!

SOURCE: I have a Coleman Powermate 4000 watt generator.

Hello Pete,

Is fuel actually leaking from the bottom of the bowl, or is leaking out the air filter and running down to the bowl?

If the former, then your bowl bolt's gasket has likely deteriorated. This would allow fuel to run down the bolt itself. Note that some carburetors will have a fuel shutoff solenoid (to the engine, not to the carburetor) that holds the bowl on, rather than a bolt. There will still be a gasket though. Turn fuel off before trying to service.

If fuel is running out from inside the carburetor (through air cleaner, etc), then you have a float / needle that is stuck. This is quite common after a small engine has been in storage and fuel was left in the carburetor. The residue causes the float to stick to the bottom. Turn the fuel off, undo the bolt that holds the bowl on, and carefully remove the carburetor bowl. Use a can of carburetor and choke cleaner to spray out the "gunk" in the bowl, spray off the float, and then reassemble. If it still leaks, then your needle seat will need to be replaced as well.

SOURCE: have champion 3500 watt generator recoil pull cord wont recoil HELP

need to take the recoil off the engine and check for a broken recoil spring, depending on the engine if it is a honda, they sell a replacement recoil unit, anything else and you will have to get creative....try tapping on the recoil with your palm and see if it trys to rewind, if no resistance or movement when bumping is a good indicator of a broken recoil spring....

My Champion 4000 watt generator will not start in cold weather

If you want it to start with a start motor, driven from a battery, my guess is the battery is in bad condition. Normally a battery will perform less when temperature is going down, but an old or worn out battery can't perform at all when it is cold. I would check that first. Just take a good battery to start one of them and see what happens. Then see if you want to replace them.

Champion 3500 generator how to fix stuck float

It could be a carburetor problem or it may be the low oil cut off switch. Check to make sure oil level is up. If it is check the needle valve attached to the float and the seat. The old carbs used to have a brass seat. Some of the new carbs have a rubber seat and it may need to be replaced. Hope this helps.

I bought a champion generator 2 yrs ago.It ran when I bought it. Have not occasion to use it until now. It will not fire. It had some rust on the flywheel. Removed the rust. I replaced the spark plug.

Probably only one of these issues to cause that. gas not turned on or flooded- ck spark plug to see if it is wet, check to see if the spark plug is getting power by taking it out leaving the wire on it and holding it about a 1/8 of a inch away from some exposed metal part of the frame and have someone try to start it. if you get a spark then ck your gap and put it back. Ck your choke too to see if it is on. also if it was flooded then leave the choke off and keep trying to start it. if it was stored outside, it may have water in the gas.

Champion 3500 watt generator shuts down after 1 min. Not low on oil!

You have a carburetor problem. Stuck float or clogged filter. Gas cannot get into the carb as fast as it is used. Letting it sit for a few minutes will allow the bowl to fill.

New Onan 4000 watt gas RV generator cuts out

The generator engine is jetted for sea level. When you run at 24 hundred feet, it's flooding out. That's what you smell. The carb will need to be jetted for high altitude.

VALSI 5,500 WATT GENERATOR WILL NOT START

All generators need to be run once a month. All things from the tank to the and including the carb will get gummed up with dried out fuel. I have a whole house generator and a 5500 watt gen set on my motor home. I keep fresh fuel in the stand alone house generator in California in case of a bad earthquake. I drain the gas after every run and keep all vehicles full of fuel just in case. Run gen sets at least once a month or pay pay pay!!
