If there are no other screws holding the bowl then the anti-afterfire solenoid doubles as the bowl nut. Disconnect the electrical cable from the solenoid and then unscrew the solenoid using the appropriate open end wrench. DO NOT twist the larger diameter body of the solenoid (coil) with pliers or any other tool. Take care you don't lose the small round bowl gasket on the end of the solenoid.

SOURCE: Briggs Flo Jet carb floods and puts gas into the crankcase

This is a common problem. The needle and seat are prone to being held open from debris, old fuel (these days it only takes a month for fuel to start to go bad) and poor mower design. The weight of the fuel from the tank can be enough to overpower the float system with just the slightest "gumming" of the needle seat. Also, if it's equipped with an electrically powered valve on the bottom of the float bowl, this unit can outright fail, get gummed up a bit, or the electrical system have a problem and power is getting to this unit while switched off, leaving it open thus passing fuel. Most likely, replacing the needle and seat, giving the carb a good cleaning will solve your problem, however if there is damage to the seat from age or debris, just install a 2 dollar in line shut off valve available at most retailers. Then just turn the fuel on and off manually. Cheap fix. 2. Drain the oil from the engine, refill with new oil and just a oz. of atf (automatic trans fluid). Crank the engine with plug wire disconnected for 30 sec or so, then connect the plug wire. Start the engine, but only let it run near idle for a minute or so. Drain again, letting the crankcase "air out" with all plugs\dipstick removed. Remaining fuel will evaporate. Refill and your off and cutting......The ATF is a detergent of a type and will help to collect the fuel from the surfaces inside the engine. It's important to note the fuel will have washed any lubrication properties from the oil, and damage to the journals and other surfaces can happen if the engine is run too long. Usually following the above procedure will limit damage and the engine should be good for many more seasons. Good luck! Papa

SOURCE: need setting for carb. adjuster on bottom of carb

Turn the adjusting screw all the way in until it LIGHTLY seats. Now back it out one and one half turns. Do the same adjustment for the throttle screw on the right side of the carb. You are now back to the stock factory settings.

Could you take a moment and rate my answer? Thanks!

B and Stratton 122t02. got spark, got air and got gas to the carb. carburetion into the float bowl is fine but not getting back up to the cylinder... dirty jet or bad needle?

1) If the spark plug is wet, it could be as simple as replacing the spark plug.
2) If the plug is dry, it could be the main jet in the bottom of the bowl is plugged.
a) remove the bottom bowl nut (it is the main jet) and clean the hole in the center with a piece of 'tag' wire, spray with air or carb cleaner.
b) re-install
c) insure that the primer bulb is functioning (you will be able to see a 'squirt' of fuel when the bulb is pushed.
** if the squirt is not there or not full, the air filter base to carburetor gasket will need to be replaced. It makes the seal for the bulb to work correctly.
There are no other jets or needles.

4 cycle engine runs on partial choke only, Float Bowl Carburetor

Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your local lawn & garden dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.

How do I clean the carborator?

Remove carb from mower. Use carb cleaner and small acid brush to clean outside of carb. Remove bowl from bottom of carb. Clean bowl. Observe bolt that held carb bowl to carb, see if it has a hole or holes thru it. Clean out holes with bread wrapper wire with about 1in of wire. Test float, float down fuel flow, float up fuel stops. Use bread wrapper to clean center port of carb from bottom up thru carb body. Remove float pin float and meter needle, use bread wrapper to clean meter needle passage up thru carb body. Re-assemble carb.
Honda carbs can be purchased new for $14 - $27.

GENERATOR WON'T START. IT HAS NOT BEEN STARTED IN ABOUT THREE YEARS.IT DID START AFTER I REPLACED SPARK PLUG,BUT ONLY FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS..ALSO SPRAYED STARTING FUID IN CARBERATOR. NO GO.

FIND THE FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE.IF IT WAS CLOSED WHEN YOU HAD IT RUNNING,THE FIX IS AS SIMPLE AS DRAIN OLD FUEL,REPLACE WITH FRESH GASOLINE,OPEN THE VALVE TRY TO CRANK IT AGAIN.
IF IT WAS OPEN WHEN IT WAS RUNNING,SOUR GASOLINE AND VARNISH HAS LIKLEY GOT TO THE CARBORATOR.
REMOVE THE AIR FILTER,LOCATE THE BOLT IN THE CENTER,ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CARBORATOR BOWL AND REMOVE IT. CAREFULLY EASE THE BOWL STRAIT DOWN,AS NOT TO BEND THE TAB THAT CONTROLS THE FLOAT LEVEL,OR LOSE THE FUEL INLET JET. EXAMIN THE BOWL FOR CORROSION OR GUNK.
THIS IS AN INDICATION THE CARBORATOR MAY BE PLUGED WITH GUNK,WHICH COMES FROM GASOLINE SOURING AND TURNING TO VARNISH AS IT EVAPORATES OVER TIME.
ON THE CARBORATOR,WHERE THE BOWL WAS TAKEN OFF,IN THE CENTER ON THE BOTTOM NOTICE THE FUEL PICK UP TUBE,TAKE A PIPE CLEANER AND CLEAN IT BY PUSHING STRAIT UP AND DOWN A FEW TIMES,THEN FLUSH IT WITH CARB CLEANER.
REPEAT THIS UNTIL IT IS CLEAR.
LOOK CLOSELY AT THE SIDE OF THE PICK UP TUBE FOR A VERY SMALL HOLE,WITH A SMALL WIRE,CLEAR THE HOLE AND FLUSH WITH CARB CLEANER.
CAREFULLY REPLACE THE BOWL AS NOT TO BEND THE TAB ON THE FLOAT,MAKE SURE THE NEEDLE JET IS IN THE NEEDLE SEAT AS YOU PUSH THE BOWL INTO PLACE.
PUT THE BOWL BOLT BACK IN,CAREFUL NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN IT.
WITH FRESH GASOLINE IN THE TANK,AND THE FUEL VALVE OPEN,YOU ARE READY TO TRY CRANKING IT.
IT MAY TAKE A FEW TRYS.
IF YOU FEEL CLEANING THE FUEL SYSTEM IS TOO MUCH FOR YOU,PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS.TAKE THE MACHINE TO A SMALL ENGINE MECHANIC.
YOU MAY CAUSE COSTLY DAMAGE TO DELICATE PARTS OR UNINTENTIONALLY CHANGE THE FLOAT LEVEL CAUSING FLOODING OR STARVING OF FUEL TO THE ENGINE.
BEST OF LUCK...

My toro lawn mower will start with the primer button but quits after that gas runs out.

Had this problem after I inherited the same mower. Take the carb off and remove the "bowl" using the bolt at the bottom. You will see a plastic float and a needle valve. Remove the float by puling the the pin and clean the needle vale and ensure it moves freely. Also clean the "jet" that holds the float washer to the carb assembly. Also clean the bolt that hold the bowl on.
