Have you tried descaling it? It may well be blocked up with limescale. Personally I only ever buy cheap irons and bin them when they go wrong! As you say-they are generally too expensive to repair.

The tank in my rowenta iron is producing steam but the iron is not producing steam

Yes the iron needs to be cleaned. They do have a descaler to clean. the Steam valve with a electronic switch is broken, that is what opens and lets the steam out of the iron when you press the button.

Steam continually shuts off. I find by switching the iron off and then on the steam once again builds up.

It has some problems with the switch. Try repairing it in repair shops.

Iron will not go on until you wiggle cord &ball

Rowenta DZ 9050 steam iron must be sent to Rowentas repair service in your area.
Local Fix shops will not work on them.
They have parts only.
