I have a Rheem ProG50-38N water heater. It has turned off and I cannot relight it. The knob on top is supposed to turn to the "off" position, but it will not go into that position.

SOURCE: Rheem water heater with powerglow ignition wont re-light

I have fixed mine. The problem part is the Ignition Control module. It is made by Robert Shaw part # SP10758. I paid $93 plus shipping.

Works great now. A repairman wanted to sell me a gas valve for $488.

SOURCE: Rheem hot water heater, gas, pilot went out. Will

You can try cleaning the thermocouple with a piece of emory clothe or replace the thermocouple. Watch and see if the moisture continues, it just be condensation from humidity from the lack of heat under there. If the moisture continues, you may have an early leak.

SOURCE: Rheem water heater turns off by its self

Flashing code 76 is lost communication between the remote and the burner control assembly CCA (circuit card assembly). The CCA is still under warranty if purchased within the last 3 yrs. Contact Rheem customer service and have your Mod. and S/N available....explain to the agent you are recieving - flashing code 76...they'll walk you through the process.

SOURCE: Rheem NatGas hot water heater model 41V50,

At the controls there should be a knob that says " Pilot"... "ON" Turn the knob to pilot and hold it down while lighting the pilot lite. Keep holding it down until it gets warm enough that when you leave it up the pilot stays on. Once the pilot lite stays on on it's own turn it to on.

Why won't control knob on water heater turn to off or pilot position so that I can relight

It usually needs to be pushed straight down, or into the valve body, if it is on the side.

I have a 650 delta thermostatic gas combination control on a Rheem hot water heater that won't turn to to the proper pilot or off position to relight it. We have looked everywhere for trouble shootin

Jennifer, the instructions posted by Rheems on the heater are wrong. You must first rotate the dial clockwise, use force (in our our case) to get the pilot to its position. The folks at Rheems are nuts not to check their instructions before printing them and plastering them on their hot water tanks. Disgraceful, period.

Rheem 21V40-38 Gas - pilot light is on but when i turn knob to hot it does not do anything

Is the pilot knob turned to the "On" position? If the knob and temp dial are set in the correct position, you may have a recalled wtr htr which requires a retrofit "reset" button that needs to be installed. Call the manufacturer;s phone # that's printed on the side of the water heater and give them the model # and serial # and find out.

Im looking for the drain on a vanguard 3wa79 by rheem. i want to change the element but cant figure out how to drain the tank. i have looked all around the bottom of the tank and around the whole unit and...

The drain is a plastic valve, looks like a knob with a hose fitting coming out the middle of it. It should be about 1' above the bottom of the tank enclosure.
Be sure to turn the gas off before you drain the water and fill the tank before you relight it.
