SOURCE: Refrigerator not cooling

We had a similar problem - it was the compressor start device. Ordered a new one from repairclinic.com, and it works great now. The old start device rattled when we shook it. We opened it up and found lots of burnt little bits. Check to see if your compressor kicks on & off a lot. Ours would run only about 10-15 seconds, then go off for a minute or two - then back on for a few seconds. If that is happening, it could be the start device. Hope this helps.

What is the complete model number of your unit?

How to receive the best refrigerator repair help on FixYa

There are a couple of things that you should include in your refrigerator repair question when you ask it on FixYa.com

1. Model Number

The model number can be located on the model/serial number tag that is located on the refrigerator.

Make sure you get the full model number from this tag and not the model number from the owners manual.

The model number from the owners manual only includes the first few digits of the full model number because they include that owners manual with many similar models of refrigerators.

With the full model number I'm able to look up factory service manuals, tech sheets, wiring diagrams, factory service pointers and so much more.

2. Detailed description of the problem

At the very least give a brief description of the problem you are having with your refrigerator.

Descriptions like 'My refrigerator don't work' is not very helpful.

Describe what is not working. For example is the refrigerator not cooling or making a noise? Maybe the freezer section seems to cool ok, but the refrigerator section is not cold enough.

The more details you can give the better. Instead of simply saying 'My refrigerator does not cool' you could go into more detail and say something like...

"I notice my refrigerator making a noise. The noise seems to be coming from the freezer section of the refrigerator. The freezer items are frozen yet, but I notice the milk in the refrigerator is getting warm."

Following these couple tips can help you get a faster and more accurate reply to your refrigerator repair question.

I have a Dometic fridge model number RM2612 in a camper that i just purchased used and the fridge isn't cooling. The freezer section seems to be okay. The metal plate in the freezer gets cold but

Make sure it is level, has proper airflow out through top vent. Also check baffle, or stack where flame sits under and blow it out good with compressed air to make sure it's clean. If you smell a hint or strong smell of ammonia, shut it off, it has a leak in cooling unit. If all ok in that area, shut it off, disconnect and plug propane line, disconnect power and remove the fridge. Turn the fridge upside down for a day or 2, then re-install and let it sit 24 hrs before turning it back on. Quite often that will take care of any blockage in flow of cooling liquid, and get things back to normal if cooling unit is still good.

Refrigerator side is not cooling

You have a defrost drain blocked and a possible defrost problem with your refrigerator. Need you to get me the model number as shown in the photo locations below. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) I will need that number to help you solve the sound alert coming from your refrigerator. Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Freezer does not work

Most model numbers are located in places like the photo shows below. It may be the thermostat itself causing the problem with freezer, yet I don't believe I have seen a refrigerator running without using the freezer to cool the refrigerator section. I guess anythings possible. Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze
