SOURCE: "Receiving Sleep" on Brother Fax 4100

The sleep mode is only a power save mode. You may not have the machine in the correct fax receive mode. If the machine is on a line by itself it needs to be set to fax only, if line is shared with a telephone it needs to be in fax/telephone, if you share the machine with an answering machine it needs to be in TAD mode, and so forth. Each time you press the MODE key it will change the receive mode. Most people hit this key by mistake and change the MODE and the unit will not pick up calls. Press the MODE key until you are in the correct mode. To make sure the machine will print, press reports and then the 1, this will print a help list. If the help list prints you know that the machine works. Then check to make sure the machine is in the correct fax receive mode.

SOURCE: Can not recieve Faxes

These machines goe into sleep mode automaticly and should exit when they detect a ring.

You MAY have a problem with your main board.

First make sure your phone cord is plugged into the correct port. There are two, line and ext. It must be plugged into line.

You can try a factory reset if that doesn't work. Unplug unit, hold menu button, plug back in and wait for lights to blink and display to read Maintenance.

Press 0 and 1

Now press 99

Now try sending to the machine again.

If this doesn't work, you likely need the unit serviced.

SOURCE: Hi, Remote Fax Error being displayed

As some fax machines are not capable of receiving color faxes, legal size faxes, or faxes at 200x200 dpi resolution, make sure you are sending an A4 or letter size (not legal size) page at standard resolution:
Press the Black button for a black-and-white fax. Press the Quality button to check the selected resolution.
Make sure the All-In-One has enough memory free when you want to save the scanned documents into memory before sending the fax. Please refer to the following document: Click here to link to the relevant document.
Note: The scanned documents will only be saved in the memory before the whole fax is sent if the Scan Before Dial option is turned on. (This is the factory default.) Up to 50 black-and-white fax pages can be stored in memory at standard resolution when there are no pending faxes in the queue.
Turn off the Scan Before Dial option by pressing the following keys on the operator panel:
Press the Fax button, then press Options 15 times to get to ADVANCED FAX mode.
Press Select.
Press Options nine times until SCAN BEFORE DIAL appears on the LCD display.
Change the setting from Yes to No using the + (right arrow) button.
Press Select.
Note: The Scan Before Dial option controls whether a document is scanned before a call is dialed. This parameter only applies to a mono fax that uses either 200x100 or 200x200 resolution. Higher resolution mono faxes and all color faxes are scanned after the call is dialed and the receiving machine's capabilities are known.
Lower the fax transmission speed to 14400 or even 9600 bps, as some older fax machines are not capable of receiving a fax at a high speed. To do so:
Press the Fax button, then press Options 15 times to get to ADVANCED FAX.
Press Select.
Press Options 10 times until MAX SEND SPEED appears on the LCD display.
Change it to 9600 BPS using the - (left arrow) button.
Press Select.
Turn off ECM (Error Correction Mode) by pressing the following keys on the operator panel:
Press the Fax button, then press Options 15 times to get to ADVANCED FAX.
Press Select.
Press Options 11 times until ERROR CORRECTION appears on the LCD display.
Change the setting from On to Off using the + (right arrow) button.
Press Select.
Note: Turning off this option makes it possible to receive a fax when the receiver fax machine does not support certain error correction modes. The X6100 Series only supports 1-D MH encoding with the error correction. Fax transmissions without ECM and other ECM types can result in bad quality on the received page.

Muratec F-110 fax machine can send faxs but does not receive, i tried different phone lines, changed configurations changed toner, drum. nothing seems to work thanks, rick

Make sure the machine is in Fax mode and NOT Tel mode. Other thing to try is to pickup handset and listen to see if you hear "Dial-tone" from the line...if you don't then you have probably lost part of the NCU pcb in the machine.

The fax continually registers as being in "sleep" mode. Says it's in "Sleep" mode all day even when it is receiving and or sending out. How do I correct that?

Setting the Sleep Mode reduces power consumption while the machine is idle.

You can choose how long the machine is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before it drops into sleep mode.

The timer automatically resets itself after the machine
receives a fax or PC data, or makes a copy. The default setting is 5 minutes.

1 Press Menu, 1, 8.
2 Use the Dial pad to enter the length of
time the machine is idle before it drops
into sleep mode (00 to 99 minutes), and then press Set.
3 Press Stop/Exit.

My machine stopped recieving faxs.

Not familiar with the procedure to set your machine, so refer to your manual if need be, but somehow you machine has been chnged from "automatic receiv" to "manual receive", or "telephone mode".. Setting obviously needs to be "auto" for the machine to pick up on it's own.
Often times, this is a button right on the operation panel that you can toggle between the different settings.

Your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode function reduces power consumption while the machine is idle. You can adjust how long your Brother machine is idle (between 00 and 99 minutes) before Sleep Mode is initiated. Please note that the default setting is 00 minutes, and the timer automatically resets itself after the Brother machine receives a fax, receives data from your PC, or makes a copy. To adjust your Brother machine#s Sleep Mode setting, please follow these steps:

1. Press MENU/SET, 1 (General Setup), 7 (Sleep Mode).

2. Use the dial pad to enter the amount of time the fax machine is idle before Sleep Mode is initiated (00 to 99 minutes).

3. Press the MENU/SET key to confirm your choice.

4. Press the STOP/EXIT key to exit the menu.

NOTE: If you frequently print, copy, or fax, set the idle time long
enough to insure that you will not always have to wait for the Brother machine to warm up.

Sleep

You should be able to send and recieve faxs in the sleep mode. You need to reset the machine, pull out the plug, hold down the menue key while you plug the machine in. When maintanence comes up in the display enter 01 and wait. Whwn maintanence comes up again press 99. DO NOT PRESS ANY OTHER NUMBERS OR YOU WILL DAMAGE THE MACHINE BEYOND REPAIR. Your fax is now reset and completley empty, you will have to put in your name etc and sleep mode will be set to "0" minutes
