This is a wired printer, not a wireless printer, so it must be connected to the laptop.
- There are up to three ways to set up your printer. You will need one of these three cables: USB, RJ-45, or parallel.
Next step
The cable you use connects to the computer
Next step
Turn your PC on, if it isn’t already.
Connect the cable you are using to the back of your computer or server here.
Next step
- If the "Found New Hardware" wizard pops up on your screen, close it.
Next step
- Make sure paper is in the paper feed tray and the paper extender at the top is fully extended.
Next step
- Insert the software CD that came with your printer.
Next step
- The software should auto-run on your computer. If not, choose My Computer and navigate to the optical drive to start the software yourself.
- Follow the instructions in the software and click OK and Next when prompted.
Next step
- Print a test page to see how your printer is doing.

Now please read this:
After everything above is done, MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS ON!!!
If you are running XP or Vista
Click Start
Right click Computer
Click Properties
Click Device Manager
In the Device Manager make sure you do not see any yellow ! points
Now in the Device Manager
click on Imaging Devices---do you see your printer; IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME
Now click the Portable Devices
Do you see the printer ---- IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME
THIS MEANS THE DRIVERS LOADED ---NOW CLOSE THE DEVICE MANAGER
For all intense and purposes, if you loaded the right drivers, the printer should run fine.
One other thing you can do is run Windows updates to see if it sends you any updates for your printer----
In XP click custom
In Vista it will automatically show you all the updates
