Try uninstalling ALL the software that came with the printer AND the driver in device manager. Reboot. Reinstall software before plugging in the printer unless told to do so by the software.

Keeps telling me the printer is offline

Check the status of the printer at Control Panel. Set it to online if it's shown as offline. If this doesn't fix the problem, check whether installing the vista driver available at your printer manufacturer's website helps.

Step 1:
a. Click Start, go to Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound.
b. Click Printer.
c. If the Printer is offline, it shows "Offline" status. If the Printer is online it shows "Ready".
d. If the Printer is offline, set it to online.
e. Right-click on the printer and select "Use Printer Online".
f. The display should change to ready when the printer is set to online.

Step 2:
If still you are facing issues, then update the printer driver. This should fix the problem.

Printer offline wont print cant get back online

Try to uninstall the existing driver first before installing a new driver. You may refer to this article on How to Uninstall Lexmark Printers. Reboot pc when prompted. When computer's ready, check if your Vista is running on 32-bit or 64-bit by going to the Start menu -> right-click on Computer -> Properties. Take note of the System Type. Download the driver using the link below:

Prints a single line of gibberish on 1 page before printing the document, then eventually spits out a blank page. Running on vista, using vista driver. Dell 1720dn printer on Vista Business SP2

Gibberish? What you are seeing may be printer control codes and data.

Is there any way you can scan the page into an e-mail and then send it to me at [email protected], please.

Have you talked with Lexmark Technical Support? I suspect you may have to escalate this beyond level one. Vista on Mac is likely to have issues that differ from other Vista environments.

Canon MP500 all in one printer is not compatible with Windows Vista. Is there a solution for this problem, or do I need to buy a different printer?

My Canon PIXMA MP500, purchased in mid-2006, came with the (then) ScanSoft OmniPage SE2 software on a CD. The PC had WinXP Installed. I had no use for the ScanSoft it so I made no effort to install it.
Fast Forward:
Two PC crashes later, July 2009. Using Win Vista Home Premium
LOST, important WinWord document file, only a hard copy available.
I tried to recover, scanning the "Xerox" copy. The SE Version of OmniPage was very complicated but I succeeded in producing a replacement *.doc file.

It appears that newer editions of WinVista contain the right printer drivers for this Canon Model.

For Vista you need Driver R153716.exe
and then you have a Patch R166244.zip
First you install the driver
then the patch

    After everything above is done, MAKE SURE THE PRINTER IS ON!!!

    If you are running XP or Vista

    Click Start
    Right click Computer
    Click Properties
    Click Device Manager
    In the Device Manager make sure you do not see any yellow ! points

    Now in the Device Manager
    click on Imaging Devices---do you see your printer; IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME

    Now click the Portable Devices
    Do you see the printer ---- IT SHOULD SHOW THE PRINTER NAME

    THIS MEANS THE DRIVERS LOADED ---NOW CLOSE THE DEVICE MANAGER

    For all intense and purposes, if you loaded the right drivers, the printer should run fine.

    One other thing you can do is run Windows updates to see if it sends you any updates for your printer----
    In XP click custom
    In Vista it will automatically show you all the updates
