SOURCE: coleman powermate 6250 mod# PM0525303

I had the same problem on my Powermate 525500 (5500 watt) and finally manage to get in contact w/Powermate (PRAMAC) tech support. He told me that if the gen is setup for a while, the exciter loses it's magnatism. To reenergize ( jumpstart) as he called it, follow the prcedure below. Probably not for amatures.
1. start up the generator.
2. Pull off the brush cover on the end of the gen.
3. Get a 6-12 volt battery and setup w/color coated cables.
4. place the negative lead on the left side brush terminal and tap the right side brush terminal w/ the positive lead.
5. Wala....you sould have power.

One would think that this important info would be on the manual or a blog somewhere.

Good luck and have a wonderful day.

SOURCE: pull start recoil assembly

I bought a replacement recoil starter for my 1850 at Pats small engine parts. The part number for a 3.5 B & S is 499706. If you look on the heat shield on the side of the motor there is the engine model and s/n. Hope this helps.

Try this link. The model number will most likely be on the endbell of your generator.

SOURCE: I have a Coleman Powermate 6250. Runs Great, No power to outlets!

Excite the genset.

with the gen engine running,
1) plug a 3/8 drill into an outlet,
(make sure the drill is set to the forward rotation)
2) hold the trigger in the run position
3) by hand, rotate the drill chuck with a quick flip of your wrist.
*** NOTE: BE PREPARED !!! this will excite the gen-set and the drill will start to run as normal.

I cannot locate the owners manual for my Coleman PowerMate 6250 generator 10 hp? Any place I can find this online quickly thank you

Most PowerMate manuals are available here: http://www.powermate.com/productmanuals.php?cat_id=3 . However, describing it as the PowerMate 6250 10 HP generator is insufficient to find the correct manual. The Coleman PowerMate line has several models with 10 HP engines and a 6250 Starting Watt (5000 W running) capacity.

These include the Powermate PM0435005; the direct link for this manual is http://www.powermate.com/pdfs/2011/12/29/pm0435005.02.pdf .

Please add a comment with the actual model number of your generator if you need further assistance with finding the correct manual for your generator.

I hope this helps.

Three year old coleman 5000/6250 generator. High

Your RPM's are too high. There is no voltage regulator in coleman generators (generator is actually made by generac) and is 100% dependent on engine speed. There is a screw under the tank when your looking in from the recoil side. It controls the governor arm. Screw it in and it incresses the rpm, out decrease. Plug something in that draws a decent load while setting the rpms since you want it to put out 120 and 240 underload. Your idle voltage does not matter.

Jo_jet, this should power most everything except A/C or heat. Most regular sized homes do not fun more than that constantly.

Have a brand new 6250 generator I have never used.

If you've got a receipt that shows it's less than 2 years old you might be able to get your local Briggs dealer to take the blower housing off and see what is wrong with the recoil starter, have a look at this link http://www.briggsnetwork.com/maint_repair/BS_engine-warranty.pdf
Otherwise you'll have to do some troubleshooting yourself. The carb comes off first (you'll need an E5 torx socket to get the studs off), then the blower housing along with the recoil starter.

Did that help? Rate me friend :-)
