Hit windows button with R and type "cmd" in the command prompt use this command "wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion" .
You can also use "msinfi32" in run command box .

Most BIOS versions are shown when you start from a cold boot. It will tell you on the splash screen. You can do a search online to determine how to enter your BIOS as it varies by computer maker. Sometimes you have to hold the "del" key, sometimes "F2" sometimes "esc". Once into your BIOS or Setup, you can see from there the maker and version.

Do you have a PhoenixBIOS for instance? You can just type 'phoenix' and be done with it. I don't know if that trick still works, but it's worth a try. Also, Google your BIOS' website from another computer and figure out the master reset password for the BIOS. Next time, do not use the BIOS password. It's so archaic. Always use a username and password when logging on to a computer.

How to restore my bios on a desktop.
Remove the "button" battery on the motherboard and turn the computer on.
Shut down and put battery back in.

or ... there are two (or 3) pins next to the BIOS chip that may be marked reset / normal.
Either temporarily short the two pins and release (done)
or ... move the jumper from one side of the set to the other side of the set (pin 1 & 2 .. move jumper to 2 & 3) and then back to the original position (done)

you need to download right bios and burn it to a CD, then you need to boot from that cd.
plz give me the exactly model of your computer? and I will search for the bios update.
you can boot from the recovery cds before you have "installed" the right bios.
let me know the exact model and I will give you more instructions what todo.

Bios problem
bios for ibm is at ibm.com and you should never update bios if you dont know much of computers but always use software to flash bios from windows... ibm.com will be good to download bios, the other part is up to you, because if you are clueless on this matter you better take your computer to an it technician before braking it down.

Computer shuts down cuts on then shuts down
If would help to know what your BIOS manufacturer is, let me give you some ways for BIOS to get in depending on the mfg.:

On EMachines it's usually DEL or F2 to enter.

AMD uses F1
AMI uses DEL
Award, Phoenix uses CTRL-ALT-ESC
