Your worm shaft or tine shaft and gear assembly are probably shot. Welcome to the club. Long live American manufacturing.

I had similar problem recently with 2007 Huskee MTD series 410. The shift assembly bent and couldn't move the clutch collar all the way over on the drive shaft.

Worm gear has a hard spot, and doesn't turn freely. Tines will run for a short period of time and then stop.

You will probably need to replace the worm gear and any other worn parts in the gearbox. Check your owners manual for part numbers. If extensive repair is needed and your machine is several years old you may be better off with the Mantis trade in program for a new tiller. I found this to be the case with my own tiller last year. Call or go to www.mantis.com.

The tiller won't stay in gear for the tines to turn. It jumps into forward without turning the tines.

Check the wire to make sure that when you engage the tines it is actually engaging the lever. This seems like your are either low on the fluid for the trans or it is stuck in place and will need some good lubrication and turned by hand. You can also with the engine off, engage the tines, and try to turn it by hand. if it turns by hand then the tarns is no good.

Tiller tines will not turn. Engine runs fine...

Well hopefully it's not the transmission, as sometimes these tend to go. Another common but cheaper repair are the two bearings where the tines connect to the unit.

MORE THAN LIKELY.. The bearing is located above the worm gear housing, the part connected to the tines beneath the guard. This removal can be somewhat frustrating but if you remove it and remove the engine flange you'll be able to manually spin the drive shaft and see if it's the worm gear housing/lower bearings or if it's the more likely bearing on the clutch drum or the clutch itself.

I need a worm wheel for a Honda minitiller FG100.

You can buy parts for this from www.petessmallengine.com
I had to replace the tine shaft w/worm wheel assy. This is usually the weak point in the transmission. The worm is made out of brass.
