While I'm not certain it is related (to the WNRO update), you may wish to check out a couple of other possibilities.
Yes, the recent WNRO update will ensure the time (on the GPS device) is properly displayed (after getting the satellite signals).
Find out if the software in your GPS device (model, etc.) can be updated (via the tomtom HOME software). If it can, and if the WNRO update is the cause of your not being able to connect, it may solve the problem.
If the software cannot be updated, it's TomTom's way of phasing out (i.e. not continuing to support ) older models of their GPS devices ... and tomtom hopes you'll get a new model, etc.
Otherwise, try to update the "satellite location" information regularly, i.e. the QuickGPSfix (data) patch, using the tomtom HOME software. It provides updated information to the GPS device on the (new) locations of the satellites. [ Yes, satellites do stray from their locations ] That may solve your problem too.

IMPORTANT:
Make a full backup, better safe, than sorry...
Do this backup vith explorer or similar,
just copy ALL content from device to a folder on your computer.
Remember to set explorer to show hidden and system files.
Connect device to pc, update device via TomTom Home....

I did a hard reset (hit the reset button on the bottom with the power on) and the sound was restored when I powered it up. No settings or favorites were lost.
