I've never really heard of the audio being locked in these units.. I do know there is a back-door code to unlock the channels, just press 8-8-8-8 for that...
It is possible that the auio amp is out, in this unit it's a TB1253an and a simple repair for a shop...

ok this totally stressed me out but I figured it out and my TV is ON!! I purchased a really cheap universal remote at a .99 cent store. Sat in front of the TV and followed the directions on the manual for my new remote, keep in mind there was a red light lit on the TV, when all directions on connecting the remote with the TV were complete I pressed on and the TV turned on. I hope this helps!!!!!

Apex TVs use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The override code for many models is 6688. Other sets may not have one, or may have a default code of 1225 instead of an override code.
No matter what the V-chip code is set to, the override code will still work. If you have a blank screen with a red key on the bottom left, simply press the (function or F) button and the mute button at the same time. This will unlock the screen and allow you to view the channel as desired
