SOURCE: 18v cordless string trimmer will not stop feeding line

Some of the trimmers recommend a certain size line, if you have one of these that let line out as needed, the speed at which the trimmer cuts will let out line as needed. If you have too small of line the drag for the friction let-out you will spoll all the line out. Make sure the line is the right size, They come in alot of sizes, anywhere from .060" to .125" line thickness so make sure you have the right size line!

Problem solved. We noticed something was broken off a small part inside the spool holder. My husband took it to the local hardware store, and one of the employees gave him the part from a trimmer that had been returned.

SOURCE: Need info on putting line on troy bilt 4-cycle

Hold orange spool containing string while twisting the black plastic cap in the center, counterclockwise. This retaining cap is loosely spring loaded, so watch for the spring falling out. Once this locking cap is removed, the spool pulls right off.

Need instructions on changing the spool on electric grass trimmer/edger

Turn the trimmer over, I put it in my lap.Remove the orange spool cap by squeezing with thumb & forefinger. It will come right off. Remove & discard(there has got to be something they can be recycled as?) If you are right handed, hold the new spool firmly with left hand with flat side with the arrows up, keep a firm grasp & use small needle nosed pliers(I use hemostats) etc. to free the loose end of the line where it is looped thru the 2 slots. Keeping hold of the spool so it doesn't all unwind, let enough out to feed thru the hole on the side of the compartment where the old spool was. 2-3" will be enough. Then, place the spool into it's compartment with the flat arrow side up.Keep a good grip on the spool until you get it into place. Replace the spool cap by aligning it in the 2 slots that it came from & gently squeezing again until it locks into place & you are set to go. Don't worry about feeding the line out to proper length, it will do that all by it's self.

The line keeps unwinding! The Worx trimmer seems to unwind the line when ever it decides too! What is the problem?

Hi,

The spool can be defective, but it may be just affected by trash in the spool where it mounts to the machine. Look at this tip. There is a place at the end of it that explains how to clean and lubricate the spool. If you cannot fix the problem with this tip, replacement is probably your best option. Try it first.

Possible Line-Feed Problem

The notches are there to hold the line in place while you place the spool back on the trimmer. If you look at the spool, you will find, on one end or the other, an arrow showing direction to wind the string. Follow the direction and when you get the spool full, place it into the notch. Leave about 6" sticking out and cut it off. If you have a two string spool, just wind the other string as you have done the first. When you have both spools full and the ends in the notches, place the spool on the trimmer. As you start the spool on, place the string (or strings) in the respective holes. As you seat the spool pull the string that is the farthest in until it comes out of the notch. Do the same with the other string. Seat the spool and try your handiwork. Good luck...Lee
