What do i need for replacement string? Can i go heavier or stay with the smaller string? This is for mastercraft 20v grass trimmer. thanks

the size of the string is critical in electric driven trimmers
it does have mass and the thicker string will over load the motor
stay with the recommended string size and keep to the recommended distance to the grass being cut
string line cutters work on the principle that the tip speed of the string is what does the cutting and that means that the first 1/2" of string cuts the grass
the rest back to the hub acts like a brake as it is dragged across the grass and slows the cutting speed and loads the motor
remember that the machine is designed to trim edges and not to cut down growth-- that is a job for heavier duty units

My Grass Hog trimmer was working fine then all of a sudden it stopped cutting. The string no longer spins around. I just hear a werrrrring sound. I just bought it last summer.

I can tell you what is is, the belt came off inside. Mine is doing the same thing, I took the case off and looked inside, the belt had come off the metal wheel. I put it back on but it keeps coming off. Im thinking theres a piece I must have lost that helps hold it on. Thats what Im looking for now. If you can get the belt back on and to stay on then it will work again.

The strings keep on breaking off at the eyelet

Usually means grass is too long for that trimmer or you are cutting too close...try trimming with just the tip of the cord...or eyelets are worn sharp

Black&decker GH 1000 trimmer. The line breaks when spool is full

Try using a thicker line when using the thinner line it is good only for grass if you should hit fence or concrete it will eat it up and you will be pulling it out every 5 minites or less.

String keeps breaking

The string is either too old or you are hitting hard objects, or both.

;How do you lengthen the string? (Have the grass

To lengthen the string:

- Turn the Grass Hog upside down
- Push in on the two release buttons on either side of the spool (they're orange)
- Pull the spool head off and spin it to release more string while you pull the string with your hand (make sure it is still fed out through the hole in the base)
- Pop the spool head back into place

Test the Grass Hog to make sure the string is not too long. If it is you'll hear it cracking against the plastic guard on the base.

It looks like its working fine, but it doesn't cut the grass. Looks like the string is spinning with the turn instead of against it, if that makes any sense.

If the string is spinning it should cut no mater which way it is turning. maybe you aren't getting the trimmer close enough to the grass.

String is cut always

first of all be carefull of what you hit with the trimmer string if you hit sidewalks and rocks or dirt it will cut it short also you might make sure the tensil strength is strong enough to withstand the abuse the trimmers being subjected to :-)

I have a Black and Decker Grass Hog trimmer and I can't get it

There is only a couple of reasons that I can think of that would cause this

1. The string is wound the wrong direction; it should be wound clockwise on the spool. (This is my bet.)

2. Or maybe, the string is too small for your particular trimmer, but this is very doubtful.
