MW8119SB cooks when door is closed regardless of settings

This unit was a purchased from Wal-Mart about 18 months ago as a gift, as is used very little. Several times over the past few weeks, after cooking some food, the oven would continue to "run" (without the carousel turning) even after the timer had stopped. On these occasions, we would also have to reset the clock. We now understand that the oven is continuing to cook whenever the door is closed, regardless of the settings on the control panel. It is possible to program and cook as usual, but not possible to close the door without the oven cooking. To test this, I have placed a mug of cold water in the oven and simply closed the door. The oven "hums", and a minute or so later the water is hot.

Clear the cook cycle when you remove the food. Some microwaves pick up where they left off, so you don't have to keep pressing buttons.

I just moved in here 2.5 weeks ago. At first the none of the numeric buttons on the Emerson mw8119sb worked. Then, after punching them for a while, the 6 worked.

First of try to disconnect it, wait for a minute, then re-power it. After internal tests it's supposed to come up with initial settings (like time/date etc.)

When the problem first started i'd punch in the cook time, the only way the microwave would run and heat is if i held up on the outside of the door. Two days later it just quit working all togethe

Call Lowe's to see if the warranty has run out. If still good, take it back. If not, call the manufacturer of the unit and see what the problem is. Sounds like the door support or hinge has weakened and the unit will not operate with the door slightly ajar. Unplug the unit for safety's sake until you find out what is wrong.

Microwave will not cook/start when start button is pressed.

You can get the latch itself from either partstore .com or repairclinic .com

Wirlpool microwave fuse

You've blown the internal fuse.

The door switches are to prevent the oven from cooking while the door is open.

You activated the switches and shorted the power line.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

It's probably a 20A ceramic fuse, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Stopped heating

You have not mentioned the make and model of the oven. Any way you can check if there is a fuse between the highvoltage terminal of the transformer and the high voltage capacitor. If it is blown off youcan replace it by similar value. Still it is not heating you have to replace the magnetron.

Emerson microwave, #MW8119SB, push start button to start cooking

Replace the fuse with a ceramic fuse from Home depot! costs less than $3 and it will fix the problem. I had all the same problems as everyone else, you name it my microwave had it! you must remember replace it with a ceramic fuse! not a glass one. I know people say its the switchboard and all that nonsence but I promise you, the fuse plays a majoe roll in the microwave not working properly. Even though it doesnt look broken, a junky fuse can cause your appliance to do very strange things. I replaced mine 6 months ago and it works like its fresh out of the box.

It don't heat anything any more. power is on turns counts food doesn't even get warm. i bought this unit from wal-mart in Joplin Missouri. 4/18/08 Wal-mart will not help me because it out of there 90 day...

one would surely assume that a product would last more than 5 months. of course you know not to put metal in a microwave, so the real question is, have you ever cooked bacon in it? I can assure you that this is a very bad idea, as the grease gets sucked up into the fan and distributed all over the sensitive circuitry inside the unit. mine actually caught on fire while cooking bacon, so now we are back to the skillet. in conclusion, the micron is probaly fried in it and it is not worth fixing. chunk it and get a new one.

Emerson MW8119SB microwave wont stop running with door closed

It should have a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

I'd call Emerson at 1-800-695-0098 to find your nearest authorized service center to have it fixed free.

It's probably a bad door switch or door switch mount.

It should have a one year warranty, right? If so, Westinghouse should take care of it for you.
