There is always a special button that raises or lowers the feed dog. Yours is probably in the down position where it can't feed the fabric through. This button may be out of sight from the front. Check your manual and find out where the feed dog adjustment button is.

SOURCE: feed dogs

If the machine has a 'darn' facility and this is selected the feed dogs 'will' stay down.

Other than that(without looking) i would guess a good clean and a dose of lubrication would not go amiss.

Try removing the needle plate to see of there is any compacted "fluff/lint" or indeed anything else stopping the dogs rising. Take off the bottom access cover have a good clean out and oil.
Best of luck

SOURCE: Raising and Lowering the feed dog on Janome 4900 MC

These machines are known to have this problem. The feed lift cam has a groove worn in it that won't allow the feed dogs to come back up. It is on the lower shaft and needs to be replaced. You can get the feed dogs back up by taking off the needle plate and lifting them up manually while turning the hand wheel. They should stay up until you drop them again.
Some people will not replace the cam and live with it.
good luck!

SOURCE: Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Pull out the removable table and you will see the drop down feed dogs switch lever behind the back of the machine. Move that lever to the left or right to have feed dogs go back to normal sewing mode OR for embroidery mode.

SOURCE: Feed dogs won't raise up again

Hi,
The Kenmore is made by Janome. The Janome has a little cam (lever) that when flipped, is pushed out of the way so the feed dogs will drop down. Over time (read too long between thorough cleaning and oiling), the cam will stick over where it is pushed. It is physically pushed when dropping the feed teeth, but it when you flip the lever back, it relys only on a spring for it to pop back. It only has one spot in a complete hand wheel rotation to pop back, and if it sticks at all, it wants to stay down.
Solution:
Hold the feed dogs up while turning the handwheel. This can help it pop up. If that doesn’t work, remove the two bottom screws under the free arm and look for the cam. It like the on the very end of the machine even left and further back from hook. As you turn the handwheel, you’ll see it rotate as a lopsided wheel on the shaft. Gently push it right while you turn the handwheel. Then clean and oil it so it will move more freely

I was having trouble with this too, but found more help online...you have to switch the dog feed back to 'up'....then turn the needle wheel toward you....the feed dog should snap back into place :)
Hope this helps :D

How do I raise the feed dos

Consult your owner's manual. There is a switch, lever, or knob somewhere on your machine that raises the feed dogs. If they are stuck in the down position and your machine is mechanical, could very well be it has seized due to lack of cleaning and oiling.

Janome 3050 feed dogs wont come back up

Dropping the Feed Dog
The feed dog can be lowered with the drop-feed lever for sewing on buttons etc.
  • Shift the drop-feed lever to the right to lower the feed dog.
  • Shift the lever to the left to raise the feed dog, it will return to the up position when the machine is started.

NOTE:The feed dog should be in the up position for regular sewing. Turn the handwheel toward you to check if the feed dog comes up after setting the lever in the up position

Hello

First, lift the presser foot; next, push the feed dog lever to the raised position; finally, turn the handwheel towards you until you hear the feed dogs snap into place

If it doesn't, you will have to run a maintenance check on your feed dogs,

Unplug the machine and examine the feed dogs. The newer machines have metal feed dogs, but older models may have rubber ones, which often need replacing. Examine the feed dogs and check for damage.

Remove the throat plate, which is the covering over the feed dogs, and clean it with a soft cloth. Use a small soft brush to clean the feed dogs. Make sure to remove all lint and thread from the grooves of the teeth. Some machines have an adjustment that lowers the feed dogs for specific sewing procedures. They should be in the raised position for better viewing during the cleaning process.

Clean the area around the feed dogs with a soft brush. Compressed air is a good choice to use in the small tight areas.

Wipe down all areas with a clean, lint free cloth before replacing the throat plate.

Prepare to clean the feed dogs and all other areas that lint may accumulate on, after every project. Your sewing machine will last longer and need fewer repairs if kept clean and lint free.

Always unplug the sewing machine before any type of maintenance or cleaning.

Never use a sharp tool when cleaning the feed dogs as this may cause damage to the sewing machine.

How do I raise the feed dog in my Elna 5000, a machine I recently inherited.

I have a 7000 manual and from memory the 7000 was released a year after the 5000 and very similar. Look at top middle image below, for feed dog release at back of the sewing free arm.
tally_girl_19.jpg At the back of the sewing free arm (remove the accessories tray) is a slide to lower the feed dogs, there is a little stub that you need to push to release it. Manual says "Drop the feed by pushing the slide (a), which is at the rear of the elevated sewing surface, to the left. To raise the feed dog again, press down the stud (b) and the feed dog will rise when you start sewing." You might need to wind the flywheel towards you half a turn to visually check they have come up.

Dropping Feed dogs on kenmore model 19233

Remove extension table/accessory box by gentle pulling it away from machine. You are left with just the free arm. In the back of the free arm, lower left corner, you will fine the feed dog lever. Push the leaver to the right to lower the feed dog.Instructions for lowering and raising the feed dog are on page 48 of your owner's manual. Good luck!
