SOURCE: is my fridge energy star rated?

ALL ENERGY STAR APPLIANCES HAVE A "ENERGY-STAR LABEL" USUALLY LOCATED ON OR NEAR THE MODEL AND SER. NUMBER TAG OR LABEL. CHECK ON THE BACK OR INSIDE THE REFRIGERATOR WHERE THE COLD CONTROLS ARE LOCATED.

My Rinnai 404 gas heater, is 27 yr old and works well. It's on bottled gas. Thinking of upgrading, the new Rinnai has a 6.2kW output. How does this compare to the 404 ? I can't find any specs.

The Rinnai 404 says it has
Input: NG, 17 MJ/h, TG 17 MJ/h Propane 17 MJ/h (15 MJ/h (Vic).
Let's work with propane at 17 MJ/h. https://www.manual-hub.com/manuals/rinnai-convector-404-01-pdf-manual
That's 4.72 kwh according to http://unitconversion.org/unit_converter/energy.html
But that's input. I don't know what the efficiency of the unit is, but let's assume 85%. 4.72 * 85%= 4.01 kwh output.

Is the Whirlpool Electric Water Heater Model # EE3J50RD045V energy star rated

You want to know if this heater has Energy Star label.
I don't know.
Call Whirlpool 1-877-817-6750

Energy Star is a label that means nothing to you.
Manufacturers use energy-star label to promote a product as a money-saver.
They can put an Energy Star label on a giant 10,000 square foot house, and you know that cannot be the truth that a large house saves energy vrs a smaller house.

Energy factor, (energy factor/ not energy star) on the other hand, is a comparison measure how efficient the water heater uses energy to heat a gallon of water, when water heater is absolutely new.
EE3J50RD045V has energy factor of .59, which is completely typical and ordinary for electric water heaters.

The EE3j 50 gallon is an ordinary electric water heater, with ordinary average .59 energy factor rating, so electricity to operate this water heater is same as any other typical 50 gallon electric water heater: it will cost $35-45 a month depending on incoming water temperature, hot water use, thermostatic setting, electricity pricing, and whether you operate heater at peak pricing, etc.
http://waterheatertimer.org/9-ways-to-save-with-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-much-does-it-cost-to-run-water-heater.html

The most important measure of water heater cost does not have anything to do with Energy-star or energy-factor.
The most important measure is total cost of owning and operating the water heater.
So if you spend $100 more to purchase electric water heater with slightly higher energy factor, then it will not pay you back. The difference will be $2 to $4 per year.
All costs are energy.
The total cost of operating water heater includes purchase price, installation cost, cost of repairs, cost of parts, whether you can fix it yourself, expected life of water heater, and replacement cost.
Every water heater has expected lifespan, and will not have resale value except current price of scrap.

Electric water heaters cost more to operate per month than same-size gas water heater.
Gas water heater might cost less over the life of water heater, but gas water heaters are increasingly expensive to repair, and increasingly more complicated, and cost more up-front to buy.

Electric water heaters cost less to buy, are easy to install yourself, are fully repairable by homeowner using generic off-the-shelf parts, and can be made to last many years by keeping tank clean and replacing anode rod every 2 years.
You can make ordinary 6-year electric water heater from box store last almost indefinitely.
Avoid electric water water heater that has electronic controls.

Noisy pilot light Vulcan Quasar 40

Simply clean out the jet tube with a fine wire, the sound you hear is the gas blowing by the irregular edges, and swirling and not mixing and producing sound waves, (Bit like a flute) So, you need to clean the tube right out, and smooth off the end again, & sorta "Countersink", Flame the end too, at the end.use a very fine needle file, and make it look like new, that will sort your problem out. Then adjust so you have a good gas flow. Also check out it isn't blocked too.

I have a 23 year old Goodman 4 ton HVAC system that has done well but is needing more repairs more frequently. I am looking to replace the unit but anything I install will be placed on credit which is not...

A 23 year old unit will be a major energy hog.You will see a massive improvement even with a less efficient unit, but go with the energy efficiency. The price of fuel is going to keep going up,and you will be using the furnace for many years.I'm in Ohio, and we get by just fine on electric for the very rare occasion the temperature drops below the level where the heat pump cant keep up.If this really worries you,you can put a couple space heaters back for emergency.Of course your talking about a gas unit,or a dual fuel unit. The dual fuel would be your best bet of course for ultimate fuel efficiency, but they can be pricey for the ones with all the bells, and whistles. Some will even use the fuel that is less expensive at any given time throughout the day.For example in some circumstances electricity is more expensive during the day then at night.Ultimately you have to figure out how much energy you use on average to heat your house. If you know the efficiency of the unit you have now you can estimate the actual output energy that is actually needed to heat/cool your house.Which would be the effective output of the old unit.Figure out how much less energy input you will need with a more efficient unit to get the same average output as the old unit.Subtract the energy usage for the new unit from the average energy use from the last winter. This will be your approximate energy savings. This should give you some Idea of the energy savings.
