I own two Honeywell Intermec EasyCoder PFi4 label printers. The printers as such works fine, the problem however is that when turning the printers on, I get a Time-Out error in 7 out of 10 times. Leaving the printer on for a few minutes, before turning it off and on again resolves the issue. I've also observed that when the printers are warm in summer (they sit on a sunny window sill), the Time Out error on power on does occur way less often. Both observations make me believe that there must be some aged component, intermittent solder joint or similar. Based on the fact that one can find numerous reports on this Startup Time-Out, it looks to be a wide-spread problem. Honeywell itself suggests to swap the entire board, which is insane in every aspect (cost, environmental, ...) Anyone aware on how to fix this on a board-level, perhaps even able to provide a schematic for electronics? I know how to use a solder station and also have people around me, who could solder more delicate stuff.

If you have another USB port asidefrom the oneyou are using now try to transfer your printer cable. Make sure your USB port is firmly connected to the motherboard. Follow the USB connectors and check if these are well fitted and not loose.Apply pressureon the endsto set the connectors.

There are two things to consider here: 1) Is the printer set to the correct media handling setting? Look in the manual for the terms BAR-SENSE and GAP-SENSE and make sure that you have sent the correct command to the printer. 2) There is a TOF or Top of Form setting that you can send to the printer to align the perforation of the labels with the tear bar. Look for the syntax in the manual, which is free for download at zebra.com, and make sure that your perfs line up with your tear bar.
