I have a SLV-N55 SONY VCR. The remote is RMT-V402A VCR (new and the light works). The VCR will not come on using the remote. Otherwise it works just fine. Is there a way to check out the VCR sensor?

I checked the remote light using the smart phone, it is good. The Sony RMT V-402A remote is the factory recommended one, and it is new. It should be correctly programmed. What next? Check the sensor inside the VCR?

If possible. reinstall your vcr code in your existing remote.
consider using another remote [ set to your vcrs code ] -- remotes sometimes low cost at dollar / thrift stores.

You can see if the remote is transmitting an infrared signal by using the camera on your mobile phone. Turn on the camera on your phone and point the remote at the lens and press a button on the remote , if the remote is transmitting a signal you will see a flashing light emitted from the front of the remote.
If no flashing light is visible , check the batteries and the contacts. Clean with contact spray or alcohol and a toothbrush. If the batteries fit loosely , then carefully pull the springs and/or the flat contact plates in the battery compartment slightly out with a small flat screwdriver or nail file etc. to ensure a good connection onto the battery terminals. Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.
Try new batteries.

Testimonial: "The remote is good(did the cell phone trick).Batteries are new. Could the problem be the sensor inside the VCR?>"

Getting replacement RMT-V266A remote to work with SLV-N50

VCRs have the code preset and aren't changeable. If you got a Universal type remote, it may be incompatible with Sony.

My Sony VCR Model SLV-662HF will not accept cassettes. I am using a universal remote control. The VCR's display shows APC 71501 and 81508. Do these APC codes refer to the VCR or the All In One universal...

The codes are to program the universal remote control to communicate with the Sony VCR. Try programming the universal remote using one of these: 60000 60032 60033 60035
The acceptance of the cassettes may not be related to the use of a universal remote control. If the URC doesn't have the "equivalent" functionality of the VCR's original remote control, you may not be able to use the URC to perform the functions of the original remote control.

Where can I get a remote control for the Sony VHS SLV 685HS?

You can get a duplicate of the original remote (new or used) here: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=SLV-685HF&uuid=12875134515770 for the 685HF. I can not find the SLV 685HS is not a valid model that I can find at either Sony Parts or Remotes.com.

However, a refurbished remote for the SLV685HS is listed at: http://www.replacementremotes.com/SONY/Buy-RMT-V231A-RMTV231A-147555321-Video-Remote-Control.html . (E-bay also lists a few remotes for th SLV685HS; these listings may or may not still be valid.)

I hope this helps.

Remote for Sony vcr works intermittently.

Sounds like the connections inside the remote are damaged and might need soldering. Check the connections around where the battery terminals are carefully. Has a battery leaked in the remote?
