I dont have ethernet drivers.

I had windows vista but my system crashed so i formated my hard drive and installed windows xp and i cant connect to the internet because i dont have the driver. My computer model is eMachines ET1161-05. If someone could give me a link to the download for the correct driver so i can put it on my thumb drive to install on my other computer that would be amazing because Ive been trying all day. i went to the emachines site but all the modem drivers were for windows vista since that computer is designed for vista so i cant find the right one. I dont know what information you need but this is my computer:

Model: eMachines ET1161-05
Processor: AMD Anthlon(tm)
2.41 GHZ 1.87 GB of Ram

so if someone could help me connect to the internet that would be awesome

Also note that as inf file shows it is same for NT and vista but drivers are for wireless. If you havent found lan driver find www.lavalys.com and download and install everest and it can say exactly who is manufacturer and what is model name. if hardly navigate simply press report and "choose hardware related page" and save it and send me to [email protected] and will find myself and find drivers for you.

it seems that correct network drivers are missing. Easiest way is to download the drivers from manufacturors site, transfer them with USB stick and install.

Patricia,

Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Left-click on the Hardware tab.
Left-click on Device Manager.

Once Device Manager has fully loaded left-click on the + sign, next to Network adapters.
What Ethernet chipset are you using? Intel, or Conexant?

Communications (6)
A) Intel - Driver 9 /5/ 2006
B) Conexant - Driver 10/ 21/ 2005

Network (3)
A) Intel - Driver 12 / 1 / 2005

If you have an Intel chipset suggest you download AND install both Intel driver files listed above.

Burn to a CD disk. Put it in your optical drive of the needed computer. Go to My Computer, and DOUBLE-click on the drive letter, of the optical drive with the CD in it.

DOUBLE-click RIGHT ON the file name.
Follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard.
(Just click on Next, Next, and Finish)

Driver: Small piece of software that allows the Operating System to communicate with a device.

Windows XP is the O/S, the ethernet chipset is the device.

When asked to restart the computer - No.
Turn the computer completely off, then after 1 minute turn it on.
(Hard Start)

Still no?
Ethernet adapter card is shot,

You need the install program from Toshiba and should be able to download it from the Toshiba site. The drivers, OS and programs were most likely on the D:\ drive, before it got formatted.

Hi guys..i got a problem with my laptop cq40.i cant install vista os.3 type os i had tried.but none of them can install.otherthing,is it my cq40 cant use windows xp sp3?

you may need to format your hard drive before installing any operating system on your laptop. also try removing the hard drive, use an ide/sata adapter and connect it via USB or install inside another computer.

use THAT computer to format your hard drive and install your operating system initially and then remove it and place it back in the laptop to finish the process.

Hard drive crash, not usable at all; downloaded xp drivers and computer drivers but cannot get them installed. Hard drive not recognized.

When you install a new harddrive, it has no Operating System on it.
Windows XP and Windows Vista, are examples of an Operating System.

Each laptop manufacturer, has their own system of changing a laptop harddrive. Some allow you to press a key or two, to put the laptop in a state where it will save the basic Operating System files, and when you install the new harddrive, it will transfer them over to it.

Some laptop manufacturers do have this option.

You either have to take the harddrive out, install it into an external enclosure for a harddrive, (Uses a USB cable) Then attach the external enclosure via the USB cable, to another computer, and use a 'mirror' imaging program to save the Operating System to that computer.

Then the new harddrive is installed in that external enclosure, and the Operating System is 'mirrored' over to it.

Just information for you, as you cannot do this now with a crashed harddrive.
Your option now, is to buy a genuine copy of the Operating System you had on the laptop, and install it.
Not what you wanted to hear, huh?

You need to buy whatever version of Windows XP it had, (WinXP Home or WinXP Pro), or Windows Vista.
If it was Windows Vista, I suggest getting at least the Windows Vista Home Premium version.

I personally prefer Xp over Vista.
Tigerdirect.com, and Newegg.com, have these.
Look for Software>Operating Systems.

OR, you can simply put Ubuntu Linux on it for free.

How to make Vista to recognize my old Hard drive

There are normally only two ways to get vista to recognise large drives and that is to format it within windows by way of right click my computer then click manage and then highlight your harddrive right click and select format. The other way is if your drive isnt being recognised because of the bios and needs updating, as most bios chips did when upgrading to vista.
