Fixing the tensions. Bottom thread is too loose.

Although a bobbin tension adjustment may be needed it is more likely the issue you are having is related to a failure of top thread feed or tension.

To test top thread feed and tension, place presser foot up and needle up. Select a tension setting of approximately four (4). Make a long slow steady pull of top thread. The thread should advance easily through the needle eye with out hesitation or snagging. This is "no tension" of top thread as foot is up. Any snagging would imply uneven feed from top spool or miss-threading.

Now place foot down and make another long slow steady pull of top thread. Note the difference in no tension (foot up) and selected tension (foot down). Again the thread should advance through the eye of the needle without snagging or abrupt change in tension.

If you find no problem with top thread tension then you can do a test of bobbin tension. With needle up and foot up, make a long slow steady pull of bottom thread. It should advance smoothly from the bobbin (case) without snagging or abrupt change in tension. It should have a similar tension to top thread foot down.

My Bernita upper thread keeps breaking

Likely tension too high or thread is snagging somewhere.

With machine threaded, test top thread feed and tension as follows.

Needle up, presser foot up, tension set to 4. Make a long slow steady pull of thread. The thread should advance smoothly and freely through needle eye. Any snagging or sudden change in tension is suspect. Make a couple more pulls to make sure thread doesn't snag while unwinding from spool. Note this is no tension as presser foot is up which opens tension plates.

Lower foot and make a couple more slow steady pulls. Thread should advance smoothly through the eye of needle. Note the change in tension with foot down.

If feed/tension tests ok, then could be problem with bobbin area, but I'd expect more symptoms, such as thread balling underneath when top thread breaks.

Pfaff 7570 puckering & snagging fabric while sewing straight stitch.

Might try a brand new needle. The old needle may be damaged so it is snagging the fabric and possibly not penetrating the fabric cleanly.

Top thread intermittently goes through middle of bobbin thread

If it does ok for around twenty stitches and then pulls the bottom stitch to the top there is this problem:
1. Top thread has tension added all at one time. This means the thread is getting a snag somewhere.
2. When you thread the top do it with the foot up. As you are threading make constant small tugs to see if there are any snags.
3. When a snag is found it will have to be smoothed for the thread to move smoothly.
4. Check the thread while it is flowing through the needle. If it is getting a puff ball you will need to replace the thread with a quality embroidery thread.

How do i fix the problem of my top thread tangling up and moving the bobbin case?

Remove your bobbin case and inspect it for any damage. Scratches, holes, snags. Sometimes you can Dremmel the snags.

Kenmore sewing machine 16520

Bobbin case problems are common, and usually bobbin race parts are easy to find and not too expensive if you need to completely replace them. Otherwise I have successfully sanded down burrs on cases and races if that is what the thread is snagging on... ? Without having someone look at how it is snagging, it is hard to diagnose. Hope you figure it out!

Blind hemmer is "frozen" won't move at all. What can I do?

on a normal sewing machine this usually means the threads are all snagged up in a knot in the bobbin case. Snip your threads, wriggle the fabric out, remove all snagged threads and rethread the machine. I don't know if this will work with your blind hemmer.

My Viking #1 + started flashing and resetting itself without my touching it. Circuit board? Help!

I suggest finding a new repair shop, is it the top stitch that is looping or bobbin stitch? could you explain more about the snagging?

Thread snagging on shuttle

My first guess is a tension problem, my second guess is you could be using cheap thread. Sewing machines don't like cheap thread. But check out your tension first.
