More than likely you need to replace the drum roller if possible.

SOURCE: 8400 blurry print

I had a similar problem. I discovered that the imaging drum was too hot. There is a temperature sensor that rides on the drum surface to monitor the temperature. You can see it if you lift the exit cover on the right side. The sensor is white, and has a thin probe which rides on the drum surface. There's a single screw accessible from the right side which holds it in place. A hole on that side will allow a screwdriver (torx) to access the screw and the little unit can be removed (be patient- it can be done!). Clean the probe with some alcohol and replace it. The problem is caused when the ink on the drum smears because it's too hot. Dirt (wax and oil)under the sensor probe prevents contact with the drum, and makes the printer think the drum is too cold.

SOURCE: MFC-9440 CN Laser Printer is producing vertical color line streak

Colored vertical streaks - looks like a transfer belt problem, and it's not user fixable. You may need a new belt unit - you can find it for around US$ 80-120, but you may want to have a technician inspect the unit first, since it could arguably be the drum instead, and you don't want to fork around US$ 100 and replace the wrong part.
You can try showing a printer sample at a print shop; by looking at the streaks it is possible to diagnose drum, fuser or belt problems.
Here you find a much more detailed page, for another printer model, but the issues are mainly the same for most color printers:

Remove the drum and toner from the front cover of the machine. On the top right of the drum unit there is a tab that you can slide. Please slide it 20 times from left to right and bring it back to home position.

I have a HP laserjet 5000 that is printing light. I've replaced the toner/fuser. I tried cleaning the laser scanner but that didn't help. I was told that the printers laser was possibly failing and that it...

Let's try going to the control panel and go to PRINT QUALITY/ECONOMODE=ON.
TONER DENSITY=5.

Now run some pages through.
If pages are good change the density to 4 and try again. If that didn't help, then you could be looking at "transfer roller","engine control board", "laser scanner", "high voltage supply".

When printing 2 sided sheets our machine puts dark gray streaks on the paper after printing more than 6 pages. The streaks continually get larger until they cover most of the page.

When you are printing 2 sided sheets the reason you are getting streaks, is your first sided not dry yet. I know it is a laser printer, even laser you have waite a bit.

Printing streaks

Most Printers that are laser have a transfer roller or transfer belt. If you have replaced all the drums this can often be the problem.

Streaking

Check the scanning glass bar. If you scanned something that had whiteout on it, a lot of times some of the whiteout will get on the glass and will cause streaks in the prints. Clean it with alcohol.
