I have a Goulds J10s, the pump housing gets very hot. seems to be working but it's incredibly hot

Contact the maker of the supplier. It sounds like they left out a gasket or seal.

If its discharging all the time, I would say its sucking up contaminated water but if only occasionally, that would suggest something is rusting / deteriorating in the system and it "grows" when the pump is not in use. I would have a close look at the source tank(s), the connecting pipework and as a last resort, disconnect the pump and have a look inside the pump chamber.

If a pump makes that sound it can mean it is not properly lubricated, or in oyur case does not have enough water passing through., and serious damage can result.. Get in touch with an agent like

IS THE TANK WATER LOGGED? THERE HAS TO BE SO MUCH AIR IN THE TANK TO KEEP PRESURE.

check for air leaks in the connections our your pressure switch is bad

In other words, it is cycling quickly. Check your bladder tank for proper air pressure. You will have to shut the pump down and drain the tank to do this as the pressure in the bladder is set when the tank is empty, or nearly so, no pressure on it. Set air for a couple of lbs below the normal on point of the pressure switch. If you don't know what it is supposed to be, start at 28PSI, after pump is working, check system pressure while it is under load, meaning turn on the water and let it run and watch pressure gauge for when pump comes on. If no pressure gauge, install one as you need it to see if you system is working properly. It it isn't a bladder tank, just an older style tank, same thing, same procedure.

The Goulds J5S pump is only rated for 40 psi. Is it possible that is the correct operating pressure? Did you get a higher reading in the past?

take the screws out of the bottom of the pump maybe sand in the impeller.that pump s/b off the bottom of the pit on like a brick or something
