Sounds like your tension is too tight for one, and the timing is off . That's why you hear a click. The gears aren't in sync.

The top tread breaks after about 1inch when trying to do chain stich on my janome cover stich machine

Could be the result of several things. There could be some gunk or threads stuck in the tension disk. Be sure to remove the thread and rethread from the beginning in the order specified. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading!!!! If you haven't tried a brand new needle, do so, and make sure it is pushed all the way up and installed with the flat side facing the correct direction. Some machines recommend #90 as the largest needle to use. Also, perhaps the needle eye is too small to accommodate the thread. Watch where the thread is breaking to give you an idea of where the problem may originate. Try a different brand of thread. Sometimes black thread causes issues because the heavy dye affects the thread. Set the tensions at the midway point and then loosen the tension on that one needle. There could also be a burr or rough spot somewhere along the threadpath that is catching the thread. Last idea--could be a timing issue.

if the serger is new I suggest taking it back and tell them what the serger is doing.
there could be a mechanical problem with the serger or it could be out of time.

Hello I just got a new home My Lock 334D machine. It has Seized intermittenly. could we troubleshoot the problem & fix it together?

Un-thread and then see if the machine will run without thread.

If not, it needs to go into the shop for repair.

If it does, refer to the manual. Or, the guide that should be printed on the inside of the serger's door.

Raise the thread antenna to it's highest position. Keep it at this position when serging. If lowered for storage, and threaded, be sure the thread does not tangle around the antenna arms.

Raise the presser foot.

Open/set the tensions to zero.

Raise the loopers to their highest level - there may be an indicator mark on the side of the serger to match with a mark on the handwheel to help with this.

Start threading from the right to the left; upper looper first.

After threading, reset the tensions to a medium number, lower the presser foot and stitch a chain to test the stitching.

Serge a scrap and adjust the tension as necessary.

Once you get the serger working as it should - don't run out of thread. Tie off, open the tension, raise presser foot and gently guide the new thread through the threading process.

When changing the thread or removing the thread to store the serger, cut the thread at the antenna, leaving thread tails for tying off the new thread.

If you do not have Nancy Zieman's "Serge with Confidence", you will find it much more informative than the average serger manual.

Lower looper problems

Some sergers require they be threaded in a particular order. If not, they do not "knit" the threads.

Raise the thread antenna to it's highest position.

Open the tensions (set at zero). If the tension settings are automatic, raise the presser foot to open the tension settings.

Turn the handwheel so the loopers are at their highest position. There may be a mark on the side of the serger to match up with a mark on the hand wheel for this.

Open the front of the serger and the threading guide should be printed on the inside of the serger door, or on the serger.

Start at the right and note which looper is threaded first and then the needles.

You can find more information and manuals at the Singer Co website.

Need instructions for threading Juki MO 3314

Open the font of the serger and the instructions will be printed on the serger or on the door.

Raise the presser foot and set the tensions to zero when threading.

Turn the hand wheel so the upper looper (curved one) is at it's highest point and thread it first, and then the lower looper.

With some sergers you must thread in a certain sequence. This should be indicated in the instructions on the serger.

Set the tensions back to normal ( 4 - 6), lower the presser foot and run a length of stitching to see if the threads are knitted together as they should before you start serging your project.

Bernina 2500DCET serger keeps breaking the centre needle thread for no apparent reason .Already had machine serviced, new needle plate didn't solve anything either. Any ideas

I have found with any serger I have used that you have to cut the looper (bottom) threads before re threading the needle threads. You then rethread the loopers.
If you don't do this, the needle threads keep breaking. Hope this helps.
