Question about Frigidaire Refrigerators

1 Answer

Frigidare model # FFHS2313LM4. Not making ice. Water supply is fine. Tested solenoids on water inlet assembly, working fine.

Temp is below 5 degrees in freezer. Arm is down on the ice maker. No filter in fridge to clog. Defrosted the ice maker in case it was frozen. I'm stuck.

Did you disconnect and reconnect any of the electrical plugs? These are touchy and need to be tightly connected. Try some conductive lubricant on the connections, make sure they're as tight as possible. Wait 24 hrs then check for ice.
Hope this fixes it.

take the line off of the solinoid valve and check to see if there's a screen in the valve. that could be plugged with debris.

Tube sometimes freezes because of minerals in it hold one droplet at a time until buildup freezes solid. Replace tube first. Water valve allowing some droplets through can also cause this. Tube first-less expensive.

SOURCE: 2000 Amana BX21Vl fridge: ice maker and freezer not working.

5 reasons for fridge and/or freezer getting warm: 1- the evaporator coils are icing up and won?t let air circulate. 2- the evaporator fan is not working to circulate air. 3- there is no refrigerant in the system. 4- no power to fridge or compressor. 5- the condenser coils have no air circulation check under the fridge behind the vent. if it is too dusty or the fan isn?t working, it is not getting enough airflow to cool down. replace fan and/or vacuum out the dust. if there is no power to the fridge, the light will be off. if the compressor is not running, there is a defrost timer that cuts the power temporarily to the compressor to melt ice on the coils. it?s located under the fridge behind the bottom vent. If the timer is off and the compressor is not going, the compressor or the main board is bad and needs replacing. there is also a temperature sensor on the evaporator coils that tells the defrost coil to turn on and when to turn off. if the defrost timer is on but the coil is not heating up, replace the sensor. if it still won?t heat up, it?s the timer or the coil. the easiest way to tell if there is no refrigerant- the freezer wall is warm and the compressor is loud. if there is no refrigerant, it may be more cost effective to replace the fridge. if you feel no air coming from the freezer vent, the fan needs replacing. If you feel air moving in the freezer but not the fridge, the channel from freezer to fridge is blocked. if the freezer has air and the rear freezer wall has frost on it, the evaporator coils are iced up and need defrosting. causes: 1. low refrigerant 2. no fan 3. too much humid air in fridge/freezer due to door open or bad door seals 4. the condensate drain tube is clogged if the seal around the door is ripped or not completely sealing, or there is condensation at the bottom or the walls of the fridge, replace the seal(s). no air, no fan. Replace if the refrigerant is low, it just needs a top off. but you need to be certified by the epa to move refrigerant, so get a professional. defrost solutions: unplug the fridge. remove the wall of the freezer that is frosted/icing up. use a hair dryer to melt the ice. do not get too close. you will see a drain under the evaporator coil. make sure it is not blocked. the water should run freely to a condensate pan under the fridge that evaporates the condensation with the hot line from the compressor. once the coil is free of ice, frost, and water, replace the panel and repair any of the problems that caused the icing up. plug the fridge in and turn it on. If it frosts up within a week, there is still an issue that not been taken care of. after the freezer freezes again, your ice maker will work again.

I have two door refrigerator no frost but the unit could not make ice it has lesser cold output may i know whats the problem on this?

There are only 3 things that will prevent an icemaker from not making ice.

1) Temperature in freezer. Most icemakers require that the temp in the freezer is at a minium of 6 degrees. If the thermostat in the icemaker is not reading this temp or below it will not let the icemaker call for water to make ice.

2) Icemaker. Is the arm on the icemaker in the correct position. Most models the arm should be down to operate and up to be off. Faulty icemaker. The internal components of the icemaker may have went out.

3) Water inlet valve. If the silinoid for the icemaker on the inlet valve is stuck it will not allow water to the icemaker. Over time inlet valves wear out.

Troubleshooting- Check the temp in freezer. If not 6 degrees or below you have another problem with your freezer. If at 6 degrees or below and you have ice and water through door unplug fridge, switch the two hoses from the inlet valve (NOT Possible on all inlets so check to make sure you can remove the hoses by pushing in on the cylinder that hose feeds into and pulling hose out) Switch the hoses than press the water through door feature. If you get water inlet valve is good. If you dont have ice and water though door than have your inlet valve tested. If inlet is good and temp is good replace icemaker. If you have any questions or need further assistance please respond. Thank you

Ice maker not making ice, but water dispenser working, just changed filter

No water being delivered to the ice maker tray . Water in the door works, new water filter. Tried disconnecting power for 5 mins. Can the water intake freeze. Should I let the freezer defrost ???

There is a tube that feeds the icemaker if you follow the water line from the inlet valve up the back of fridge and remove full tube you can see any ice buildup or try these.

Ice maker dont work

There are several things that can prevent and icemaker from working.
1- Temp in freezer. If the temp in the freezer is higher than 6 degrees the ice makers thermistat will not call for water.
2- Water inlet valve. If the inlet valve is malfunctioning the silinoid may not be opening. Even if you are getting water through the door.
3- Faulty ice maker. If the internal components of the ice maker are no longer functioning it wont make ice.

To test the inlet valve. In the back of the fridge is and access panel near the bottom remove this panel and look at the inlet valve. now you should see 3 hoses. One is usually copper and runs directly from the house water supply. There will be two other hoses from the inlet. One leads into the fridge for the water in door feature. The other is for the icemaker. Switch the two hoses from the ice maker ( water in door and icemaker) than push the water in door feature and see if the water goes into icemaker. If it does not than replace inlet. If does and temp in freezer is below 6 degrees replace icemaker.

If you need further assistance please comment me back.

My icemaker is not working.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Often when ice makers slow production or stop making ice it is because the freezer compartmet\nt has warmed up above 17 Def F and the ice maker thermostat will not cycle to start the ice harvest cycle.

In the back of your unit you will have an inlet water valve assembly that will look similar to this one:

Water Dispenser Not Working Check the water supply to the water inlet valve. Check the water filter. ( if applicable)
Check the water inlet valve
Make sure the Temperatures in the Fresh? food section and the freezer sections are normal. 33 to 42 in the Fresh Food section and 0 to 10 in the freezer. Or check that the controls, both the fresh food and freezer section controls are set on the "normal" settings. If the controls are set too cold it will cause the water? tank or tubing to freeze.
Dispenser switch not? working, check for continuity

Dual Water Valvedual_water_valve_small.jpg

One side of this valve does the water in the door, the other the water for the ice maker

Disregard any reference to water in door if your unit does not have that capability and there will only be ONE solenoid on the inlet water valve assembly.
If the solenoid coil fails it will not open the water source to supply water to the ice maker. This solenoid is only energized for 8 to 10 seconds as the ice maker sweep fingers (Called ejector blades in the manual) reach the 10 - 11 o'clock position during the harvest cycle. All you will hear is a minor buzz and maybe a minor thump of the plastic water line but the ice maker fills during the last 40 % of the harvest cycle.

Here is a manual you can use for troubleshooting:
Kitchenaid-Estate%20Appliances/Refrigerator/In%20Door%20Ice%20Manual%20with%20Diagram.pdf">http://www.affordableappliance.com/Download%20Folder/Whirlpool-Roper-Kitchenaid-Estate%20Appliances/Refrigerator/In%20Door%20Ice%20Manual%20with%20Diagram.pdf

Note the requirements to test the ice maker using the manual above are:
Door light switch plunger depressed (Taped down) and the freezer temp from 0 - 10 deg F.
You will need to make a jumper wire to jumper terminals T to H inside the ice maker front cover to start the ice maker test. If it cycles with the jumper the thermostat is good. If it does not cycle then either the thermostat has failed or... there is no power coming from the door light switch. (Bad door switch)

If all of the system tests pass and you still do not have water.... suspect the inlet water valve (pictured above) or the water supply as the source of the problem.

More often than not.... the real problem turns out to be ice build up on the evaporator coils due to an automatic defrosting problem. Should you discover a build up of ice on your evaporator coils do a MANUAL defrost session by unplugging the unit and directing a fan into the freezer compartment for just over 2 hours. (Makes a water mess so be ready!) After the manual defrosting return the unit to normal service. You should have ice again within 12 hours. Keep an eye on the evaporator coils for the next 5 days because if you do have an automatic defrosting problem the symptom WILL return in a matter of 2 - 4 days. If the ice block returns.... have the automatic defrosting problem corrected to keep your ice maker working normally.

Kelly

No Ice. Replaced 4 solenoid water inlet valves. Icemaker spins around, but no water comes up. Any ideas?? Bruce

Follow the water source line on the back of the refrigerator to the shutoffvalve on the water supply. Turn the shutoff valve counterclockwise to open itfully. Inspect the water source line for kinks. Straighten the line to removekinks.Confirm water flows to solenoid one end. And also check freezer door is closed as it will sense solenoid to open to water flow into ice maker. Sometimes, water flow might be plugged by frosting. Check freezer setting temp 5 degree. Thanks.

Hss25gfta refridgerator ice maker seems to be stuck on off .It all of the sudden quit making ice and we can't find the solution. It makes water fine

Hi and welcome to FixYa I am Kelly.

The ice maker suddenly no longer making ice can be caused by many things.

1. The freezer section is above 16 F.
a. Usually the cause is ice buildup on the evaporator coils as a result of an automatic defrosting problem.
b. The evaporator fan is not turning at full speed

2. The ice makers thermostat has failed. When the tray reaches 16F temp is closes the circuit and starts the ice maker harvest cycle.

3. The ice maker drive motor has failed.

4. The ice maker heating element has failed.

5. The inlet water valve is allowing water to drip into the ice tray during the freeze period of ice making.
a. You would note that the water fill area of the icemaker would have ice build up. Also in the very back of the ice make tray ice would build up and prevent the sweep fingers from rotating.
b. Usually when the above happens the rubber water inlet tub that goes from the back of the unit to the ice maker is frozen solid internally.
c. You can test this by removing the plastic hose from the rear top area of the unit and placing the upper end of the tub in a bucket for several hours. (ICE MAKER OFF) If you note water in the bucket the water valve is leaking water past the diaphram when the solenoid is supposed to be closed and must be replaced
6. The inlet water valve solenoid coil has failed.

Most appliance parts sources do not sell piece parts for this ice maker. They only sell the complete assembly. Here is one source of many on line sources for just the icemaker.

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4345120

Should the water valve be leaking water by it is item 800 of this link that is also one source of many online sources: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5203104&diagram_id=24933031#d24933031

Icemaker not working

Ok, check the temperature to make sure it is on the factory settings. if the temp is set below the factory settings, this will freeze the assembly, in return, not allowing the ice maker to initiate the ice makign procedure properly. if the temp is set to factory settings and the water lines and assembly isnt frozen, thsi will confirm a fualt within the inlet water valve assembly. you will need to replace the water valve assemb ly in this case.

Water Dispensor and Ice Maker Not working

Make sure you have water coming to the water inlet valve and then check to make sure that your water filter is pushed all the way in. Next check your solenoids in the back of your fridge. With the power off take an ohm meter and test across the two terminals and it should not Ohm out or beep. If it does you need to replace the solenoids
