Most modern refrigerators do not have defrost timers anymore. Instead, the main control board controls all of its functions. Older units would have a timer, much like a clock that would defrost every 6,8,or 10 hours if it needed it or not (some may have had a different time but these are the most common). With the main control, it will typically defrost every 8-10 hours of compressor run time. This cuts down on the cost to run it since the defrost cycle uses the most energy.

I am not sure why you are looking for this? you did not say what problem you are having but the main board is in the back, bottom right when you are looking at the back. You will see a rectangular metal plate with maybe 10 screws.

Your model TFX20JRBKWWW uses a defrost timer part number WR9X489 located behind the light shield in the fresh foods compartment. (top back area). Just in case you need to know, the defrost heater is a part number WR51X10101 located behind the back wall of the freezer.

Evaporator fan motor inside the freezer is working? Any frost on the freezer back wall?

This is the fan inside the freezer section, it will circulate the cold air around in the freezer and blow the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food section, it also sucks the warm air from the fresh food section back into the freezer to be re-cooled.

Hot condensor coils ( under the refrigerator ) been cleaned recently?

**GSS25LGMA**

That is part of a full model#.

SOURCE: Fridge warm at top cold at bottom

If the fan is no coming on inside the freezer this will need to be fixed soon. Both fans upper and lower must run while compressor runs. Inside the fresh food compartment close the damper on bottom left side next to the paned drawer. If this does not help send more cold air to the top let me know as there could be something else causing the dampers not to open and close properly.
Thanks, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: locate defrost sensor

Remove all of the racks and drawer from the freezer, take the back wall off from the inside of the freezer, defrost limiter/thermostat will be attached to the evaporator near the top, it will be a metal cylinder with two wires coming out of it. It opens on warm and closes on cold

Ge model refrigerator GSS23QGTAWW pictures or video showing location and removal of defrost timer, heater and thermostat switch in the freezer

Your model doesn’t have a defrost timer. It has a control board that controls defrost and many other functions of your fridge. It’s located behind metal plate on outside back of refrigerator usually just above bottom grille. Heater and defrost thermostat are located behind removable panel on inside back freezer wall. Heater will be at bottom of evaporator and thermostat will be clipped on top of evaporator

Its a Double French doors pull out freezer on bottom, model number GFSS6KKYSS..my brother has plugged it back in after defrosting all the ice and we can't hear the fan, apparently not working yet? Is this...

On a regular fridge there is a timer located at the back of the fridge that activates the auto defrost on and off during a predetermined cycle. The timer provides power to an electrical heater (black cable) curled around the freezing elements, this action defrosts the cooler. This timer has an unusual rotating shaft on which a screw driver is used to rotate it and it is designed that rotation can only be in one direction. Look at the rear of your fridge and try to locate this timer, it is normaly mounted on the edge of a side panel near the coils.
Once you have located it , use a screw driver that fits the groove of the rotating shaft and rotate it in the allowed direction (as you can only turn it in one direction) the fan should the run, if not, slowly continue rotation 360 degrees and until it does . IT IS POSSIBLE THE TIMER IS DEFECTIVE...REPLACE IT WITH IDENTICAL TYPE AND MODEL. This should be the cure to your problem. Good luck.

I have a GE Profile fridge, top freezer. Ice buildup keeps blocking thew evaporator fan. I've defrosted 2x, checked evap drain for blockage. But ice buildup reoccurs after 2-3 days. Turning up the

You have a defrost problem. Locate your defrost timer while the unit is iced up and turn it until you hear a defined click. At this point open the freezer and listen for ice cracking. If Ice starts cracking then it's your defrost timer bad. If ice doesn't crack, then you have a defrost component bad ( heater and Bi-Metal) Ohm out your heating element and replace if there is no continuity. You can usually find defrost timer either under the front of the box, in the fridge around the light or thermostat or sometimes in the back at the bottom. The dial on the timer can only be turned one way with a large flat head. You will hear the difference in the way the clicks sound for the defined click. Good luck.

I have a TFX27F side by side GE refrgerator. It was running fine at my old house. I moved and then plugged it back in after several months of having the unit in storage. after 4 days the diagnostic thing...

that shows as a defrost problem, how old is this fridge?from what i see this is old, some parts are unavailable for it,if you send the full model number i can look up the parts for you,if this is an older machine open the fridge door, look down where the bottom hinge is and there should be a tag with the model number your missing a few letters after the F if not there look up on the top right hand wall or on the ceiling in the fridge section.then open the freezer, from the bottom up remove the second bin or draw from the bottom up,reach in and touch the back inside wall of the freezer, see if there's any frost or ice buildup on the wall.you might have to unplug the fridge, remove the food in freezer, remove the back inside wall, you'll see the evap coil,i think on this model the timer is on the bottom behind the kick panel,go here to see timer
https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Defrost-Timer/WR9X482/2008
with the fridge running stick a screw driver into the timer and turn the timer until it clicks, the fans and compressor will shut off,now with the timer in defrost and the back freezer wall off see if the heater comes on.also check the wire connector on the timer it could have moved while you moved the fridge,if the heater comes on you have a bad timer,if not change out the heater and defrost thermostat located on top of the evap coil.go here to see heater assy.
https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Defrost-Heater-Assembly/WR49X392/304720
also while you're in there change out the defrost thermostat go here to see part
https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Defrost-Thermostat/WR50X55/3485
first before you do this make sure the coil is clean on the bottom and see if you see the timer down there, also open the freezer door, you should hear the fan blowing, usually it takes like 10 to 14 days for a defrost problem to show up but it says DE is a defrost issue, write back with the full model number but these parts should be the same, let me know if you found the timer and did the heater come on when you manually turn the timer to defrost.i'll be online for a little bit so if you're gonna check this out or you want help let me know.

GE Profile - fridge not cooling

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Freezer works. bottom won't get cold

You have a defrost problem locate the timer, advance timer until it clicks and compressor and the fan stop. Open freezer door and observe within 2 minutes you should see and or hear it defrosting. If so replace the timer . Set controls back to medium until back to normal. The timer should be inside top of fridge part, youll see a small hole as big as a pen, use a flat head screwdriver turning clockwise(it will only turn one way)) .

GE Monogram Side by Side 42" Freezer light is lit on front panel.

The defrost timer is what I think you are asking. It is behind a cover near the light, The timer puts the fridge in defrost ever 6 to 8 hours. If the timer is bad it will stop the cycle of defrost and cause the freezer and the cold food section to warm spoiling the food and increase the freezer temp. Try turning the timer screw clockwise until you hear the fridge compressor stop. If after this listen for a crackling noise that will be the sound of defrost taking place. If doing this starts defrost, you will need to replace the timer.
