SOURCE: blender blade not turning, rotating piece on base not connected

this is getting more and more common there is a part between the motor and the drive gear that snaps for no reason . its job is to snap if the blades jam as a "fuse" to save your house from a overheating ,jammed motor . the problem is there are no parts to buy to fix this . if its new take it back to where you bought it . otherwise shipping it 2 ways for repair to the factory is sometimes as much or more as a new blender ........ i would recomend you do one of two things : go to a goodwill or other type shop and get a nice vintage blender , it will last forever ! or move up to a vita mix . its costly but it will realy last you ... this new made in china junk is just bad news even when it has the kitchen aid name on it . its still the same junk ..... good luck........ Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . A 1 or 2 may knock me down into the unpaid ranks. Thanks Cactus Bob .

SOURCE: Blade won't spin

Check the blade with it off the base and make sure that it spins freely. Check the spindle on the base and see if it feels hard to turn. If the spindle turns too easy , then the connection inside the base is broken and needs replacing.

SOURCE: A spoon was in blender for a few seco nds and does

having the same problem, called vitamix and for $15 CDN they'll send me a new Drive Socket. Apparently they're setup to shear if something like a spoon gets in there. Prevents the motor from being destroyed.

SOURCE: Waring Pro Blender is leaking and blade assembly is loose

I know this is an old, old post, but I could not find a solution anywhere, so hopefully this will help someone. We have a model 51BL25, similar to scottman55's blender, and it had the same problem. There are two separate nuts in the blade assembly. One holds the blade on, and the other holds the seal tight. When the latter gets loose, the blender shakes and leaks.
To fix it, first you have to remove the top nut holding the blade on. I had to get in there with pliers, but a ratchet with an extension would be perfect. This nut is right-handed ("normal"). Once that nut is loose, you can remove the nut and the blade. You will also want to remove the washer immediately under the blade (take note of which side goes up).
Now, you can pull the whole axle out by the wheel on bottom of the blender. This exposes a really thin, flat nut. In my case, this nut had come completely off, so nothing was really holding the seal together at all. Again, make sure you remember which direction the nut goes -- it is not quite symmetrical. That nut is what comes loose when the blender starts leaking. By the way, it is a left-handed nut, so it screws on counter-clockwise ("backwards"). Screw it in tight, then put the rest of the blade assembly back together, and your done. If you have the right tools, it should take only maybe 5 minutes.
Depending on your problem/model, this may or may not solve your problem. Hope it helps!

My blendtec blender doesn't blend as well as it once did. The motor seems to be running fine, but I am not sure if the blades are spinning properly.

You have already found what is the problem the blades.
The blades after a lot of working hours with ice they have mainly three problems.
One the sharp adjes have created a lot of teeths and are not so sharp any more so the blending is not smooth anymore.
Second problem they have loose a title so they have move from corect place some milimeters and this change the wave motion and again the beleding is not so smooth as before.
Third the blades are secure on an axis which is located in two bearings which have een wearing out so the rotating motion of the blades again is not so smooth as before.
So if you are not able to fix the blades kit or to find someone in your area to do it profetionaly and cheap one good idea is to buy a new blades kid.
Good luck

A blade on my immersion blender was bent slightly. The motor still works and the blades spin, but they no longer emulsify. Can I buy just a new blade attachment?

If you have a model with the detachable blades. Otherwise, you'd need to purchase the blending rod from www.wpcookware.com.

The blades stopped turning in the middle of blending a batch of hummus Its is a Kitchen Aid blender about 10 years old

Does the motor still work if you take the pitcher off of the base? If so, the rod that's in the blade assembly is probably corroded. The blades are connected to a metal rod that passes through a brass tube through to the piece that makes contact with the motor when you put the pitcher on the base. The grease wears down eventually and if you don't pulse and run the motor for a long time at once, the heat can corrode the bar and cause the blade to stop spinning. You can either disassemble the blade unit, or buy a new blade unit online. google blender parts and you can get one for $10

Connection between the motor and the blender unit (where the spinning takes place) - get extremely hot and blender does not seem to blend well. Motor works fine without the top - and the top seems to spin...

Replace the blade assembly immediately. They are available from Cuisinart's website. Sugars and other stuff can gum up the blade assembly over time, so it will periodically need to be replaced. A quick and easy way to keep the blade assembly clean and working longer is to put water and a drop of dishwashing soap in the blender after use and run the blender at low speed for 15-20 seconds - an old Osterizer trick.

Turns on but doesn't spin!

It sounds like your blending assembly is shot, you'll have to order a new jar since the blade is not replaceable in this model.

Stopped blending

Exact same problem.  Turned out the threaded shaft that holds the blades was broken so tightening the nut on the top doesn't really help.  Just ordered a new blade assembly from www.smallappliance.com.  Mine was the Waring 007314W Blender Cutting Assembly but there is also an older one for earlier models.  Don't know if it will work yet (assume it will), but cheaper than buying a new blender.
