I have a problem installing my Yahoo! Messenger.
I uninstalled it because I had a problem logging in. I can log in in my
yahoo mail and use my YM there but not in my Yahoo! Messenger. That's
why I removed it. Then I tried to install it again. Now its saying :
"Yahoo! Messenger is unable to download files needed for installation. Please check firewall settings and retry installation."
I've already tried to turn off my firewall and install it but I kept on
getting the same message. I tried installing it withoutthe internet
connection but still the same message.
Please help me. What could be the problem? I was just using YM 2 days ago. This started yesterday. Thank you.
The problem is with the Yahoo uninstall software which fails to clear the old Messenger folder out and creates conflicts with the incoming new software - Your firewall doesn't know whats happening and hoists a red flag. If you had not started to uninstall I would have recommend you download revo and uninstall with that.

bear this in mind if you manage to install messenger but still have problems
You have to go into your C drive and delete the left behind software
Click ( > ) Start > Computer >> Local disk (C) >> Program files >>Yahoo >> Messenger - if you have Vista the folder should be empty - if you have pre- Vista the only sub-folder remaining should be 'Profile' ( The message Archive file) manually delete everything except 'Profile' by right clicking and deleting. When finished restart your computer and finish the install

I found the answer its so simple, The problem has nothing to do with firewalls. Yahoo instant messenger (yim) needs internet explorer 7 or above version to enable yim to operate properly with the current yim versions. If you have an earlier version of IE (I was using IE 6 coz I always use firefox not IE and did not have windows update enabled) I had disabled windows update coz windows XP is not supported by windows update any more,and kept using firefox, but even if you never use internet explorer, yim still needs internet explorer 7 to operate without these errors shown above. I tried to fix it for weeks thinking it was firewall or such, but it just needed IE 7 so I downloaded it here:http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/... and even tho it says its for a windows server it still worked on my windows XP pro 64bit and now yim is working properly, allowing multiple users of yim etc, no problems at all now. Hmm . there may be a virus in your computer. try reprogram your computer and install the latest updates and antiviruses. usually your computer has been infected with malwares.. Or, you can try downloading a corrupt free installer of yahoo messenger. if the problem still persists. try installing a latest or different versions of yahoo messenger. But if none of these works, there may be a problem with your operating system. you should reprogram it and install latest updates and a good antivirus program like kaspersky... if you stil have a problem just pm me. or email me with this address.
