Hi I have JVC KD 85, when I press the rewind button, the tape does not move or the spin is slow, but on ffw it's all normal. What is the problem? Is it old belt or idlers, etc...? Thnx

Hello, for what you describe your JVC, it requires a service of mechaning, replacement of belts and rubber pulleys, plus all the cleanings of old lubricants
If you have technical knowledge, I send you the link to download the service manual
If you are not looking for a specialized technical service
I hope you can listen again and rewind the tapes in your JVC

SOURCE: rewind

Dear Tim, In all likelihood the belts of your VCR have become old and worn. I suggest you unplug the machine, and open the bottom plate. You will now be able to see the Drive belts. Go to a Spare parts shop and buy a Belts set for your nodel from them, and replace. Also, try changing the REW/FF Idler unit. This should do the trick.

SOURCE: loud noise on rewind

You may have an idler gear wheel which has been damaged- perhaps broken/worn gear teeth or something afoul in it's drive mechanisms. Check this idler which sits down in between the supply and take-up spindles. You should be able to see this with no tape loaded. This idler should also move freely from supply to takeup- if it is sticky in movement this could be the problem. If your idler is broken, you may be able to replace it. Check with a service center- or a parts supplier. MCM electronics is one such supplier- there are others.

SOURCE: JVC KD-85 Cassette Deck Stops in Seconds in play, REW., & FF

The deck will need new belts and idler drives cleaned and serviced, and perhaps some idler tyres replaced. You can get a belt kit from these guys. replacing them is not such a difficult job if you have some mechanical aptitude. Just take it slowly, and focus on getting the transport out of the unit.

My jvc lcd shutt down every time and i dont know the rason

I can honestly say I have been quite happy with it and its performed pretty well with very few problems and is still going today.

First of all congratulations on getting so many years of heavy use (2002 - 2012) on your JVC VCR.

I have a HR-S3911U and a HR-S5912U from the same era and my 3911 has seen a million miles and both my units are still going strong. I did experience a similar problem with my HR-S3911U but instead of the eject function my problem was with a sticking guide-pin. I did a have similar ejection problem with one of my 1985 Super Beta Hi Fi machines. Really it sounds like the exact problem as you describe. What I did was I opened up the unit and watched carefully - it was just a sticking moving part. My JVC guide-pin problem was just sticking as well - after a gentle push into place the guide pin has not stuck since. I don't suggest using any grease unless you really have to. I suggest you open the unit - if you have a video camera video tape the ejecting and play back in slow mo to see if you can catch the problem. Sounds like a sticking moving part which can be common on any VCR.

..couple times its had issues with dirty heads as i would get a message appear on screen.

I'm very surprised that in the past you had "dirty heads" messages pop up on screen as I have never seen that message on my JVC machines and I do use them a lot and very rarely clean the heads. Proper tape storage is very important. Trying not to use the same tape over and over again also helps keeping the tape path reasonably clean.

I think it could benefit from the heads being cleaned. I don't even really know what are the heads. Is it that big round drum? One thing I did notice is that when I load a tape, it straight away wraps the tape around that drum and the drum spins away and just idles there constantly rubbing on the tape before i have even pressed play. I have left tapes in there for days and days, so I assume this cant be good having that thing spinning away on the tape for such a long time?. I am not sure if this is normal or not but I wont be leaving tapes inserted in the VCR long periods now.

The heads are tiny little things inside the big round drum. I will show you if you post a picture of your unit with the cover off.

The tape staying wrapped around the drum with the drum spinning is normal but the drum should stop spinning five minutes after you load the tape as long as you don't touch play, rec ,ff or rewind. This is called a "long pause" (the tention is a little eased and is not rubbing hard as a normal pause would) and the long pause is there so the unit will immediately start playing or recording if you push play or rec within 5 minutes of loading the tape. If the drum does not stop after 5 minutes of sitting idle then your VCR has a malfunction and you should not leave tapes in the machine idling.

I am concerned about your heads clogging up - that is not normal unless you don't take proper care of your tapes - is there very high humidity in your area? That could cause problems.

Sorry I posted this in a hurry but will go into more detail later if need be.

Change the clock

Press and hold 'SEL' for ~ 1 second or longer. Press up arrow (fast forward) or down arrow (rewind) to select Clock Hour or Clock Minute, adjust each separately using +/- button. Press 'SEL' to finish. Reference page 7 in this link to your JVC KD-G110 instruction manual.

The tapes In my Panasonic PV-GS14 are stuck and won't run

you cannot move the spindles/cogs in a mini dv tape without pressing down a small lever on the rear of the cassette.
the lever is in the lower right, move the lever, then move the ribbon protector to the open position, then spin the cogs, the tape should be free.
if not, then you have a jamm inside the cassette, you can open these casettes by removing 4 small screws. ( this is a very fiddly job & you may ruin the casette, if you dont know how )

Rewind or fast forward

Though not familiar with this model, VCRs of all sorts have an idler mechanism which drives the supply and takeup spindles. Either the idler is somehow defective and slipping, and, assuming this idler is belt driven, the belt may be slipping just enough to cause a no Rew/FFW condition. If you had access to a test tape jig (a clear dummy tape, which allows a tech to view what is happening in the area normally obscured by the loaded tape), this might give a clue as to what is happening. On alot of machines, a problem with Rew/FFW would also mean a tape takeup problem in standard play, result in tape spilling out inside the machine. Sensors would catch this condition and go into a error mode, as yours is doing. One other thing which might be happening here, is the pinch roller not being disengaged from the capstan in the Rew/FFW modes. I think this is where I'd look first, and you can probably see if such is happening just by pulling the cover off the VCR. The pinch roller is just to the right of the rotating video head. In the play and forward/rev search modes it will press the tape up against the capstan (a rotating shaft). When in Rew/FFW, the pinch roller should be pulled back from the capstan, maybe 1/4 inch or so. Whatever the case, repair will likely take someone tech savvy. Costs might not be economically justified, with the low-cost, disposable rigs sold in the last 10+ years.
