Hello Jennifer, I must understand that you speak of a video projector, to locate where the fan is, you would have to tell me, make and model, of your projector
Apart from cleaning the fan, you should also clean the dust filter, which is usually removed with a screw
Discuss what results you had with cleaning the filter and also comment on the make and model of the projector
I hope you can solve the problem
Greetings Franco Dosil

Testimonial: "I have 50" Panasonic CinemaVison model number 50DL54J Everything I read says it only involves taking out a couple screws. But I don't see how that would be on my TV :( I replaced the lamp myself very easily!! I replaced it before it even needed to be replaced because I thought that was the problem. I know without a doubt it's overheating! The TV Runs Loud ( Fan wise ) So I'd like to be able to locate it and clean it before actually purchasing anew fan. I look forward to hearing more info on this."
Well Jennifer, I can not find the service manual of your Panasonic, I suggest you to locate, where is the filter that you need to find for cleaning, that you wear the TV, lower the volume and try to hear the noise generated by the fan, in that sector will be the screws to remove the filter and clean it and replace it
I hope this comment serves
Greetings Franco
Saludos Franco

SOURCE: Trying to replace lamp fan
First let make sure it's the Lamp fan. What many people think is the fan, And by the way there are three fans in this model, What sound like a fan is in fact a color wheel. So listen to the set as it starts up, these Samsungs make certain sounds when they start. First after you hit the power button you get the "Samsung Tones" from the speakers, second ALL the Fans start 1 to 2 seconds later the color wheel starts then stabilizes, third you may here the lamp fire. So if the sound takes two to three seconds after you turn the set on it's the color wheel BP96-00250A Now when it shuts down its like this First the shutdown "Samsung Tones" then watching from the back after a few seconds the lamp will shut off, then the color wheel stops but all the other fans remain on for about 2 minutes. I've worked on thousands of these and in only one or two was the problem a fan. but on the other hand I have enoghf bad color wheels I was able to make a pertty inpressive Christmas decoration

A more likely candidate is the color wheel, unless your sure it's the fan
This sounds like a case where jumping to a incorrect conclusion has not resulted in the fix your were after. The problem could also be related to the power supply. Before going for another part it is best to consult a Technician who works on these all the time and get a correct direction to go before ordering a lot more parts. if you check on the internet with the symptom and model /brand of your unit- chances are someone else has already had this problem and may have the solution there for you to take advantage of. Of course each TV is different but it might be a better way to proceed than just guessing.
