I have a Samsung PN50B530S3F plasma TV 2009. It has a black horizontal lines problem.

I have opened it up and tried reseating some of the cables as recommended online but that has not made a difference. I have NOT replaced the Y board as some others suggested online. I am not sure whether I should bother as the main problem that people say online is that the screen itself is bad burned out connections to the actual glass screen. What do you think?

Check the display strip. un plug it and fix it

Testimonial: "What is the display strip? The Y board? I already reseated the cables connected to the Y board. Just not sure it is the board. The symptoms seem to indicate it is the panel"

you can guess all day and go broke.
why mess with 10 year old TV.
used boards may be on EBAY but will be not cheap and may be bad.
why not just buy a TV at walfart and call it a day.
your not going to put in in a shop and pay 10x value of TV for labor and parts.
no why does anyone ever do that. (hope, econ101)

  • Anonymous May 03, 2019

why do you think we can guess better than you.
no tools , no schematic, no spares,no service book
and we can' t touch it. nor see your screen.
    why?

I added a couple of pics here. It shows that the lines are all over the screen but more on the top. What are the chances that it is the board? Or most likely the screen as in this video (ribbon cable to the traces to the screen)?

Finally i Decide The problem is in Display.Arrange a display and check it

  • John R May 09, 2019

So not worth fixing as the display costs more than a new TV, correct?

  • John R May 11, 2019

  • Akbar Mughal
    Akbar Mughal May 13, 2019

This is very easy purchase a screen. open TV. Remove connections and Remove old display.. fix a new or a used screen if available from any workshop.

  • John R May 13, 2019

I need to try and find another used TV that has a problem but not the same screen display problem. Getting a replacement screen from Samsung is too expensive.

SOURCE: Samsung HPR4252 with red horizontal lines accross the screen

I just had my HP-R4252 repaired on 12.05.09 with a similar problem. The picture is covered in horizonal, broken lines and the color is predominately red. They lines are grouped together in large bands across the screen.

The tech replaced the Y-Buffer boards (Up) and (Low) in about 20 minutes.

How to fix Black Horizontal Line on Samsung Plasma TV (PN60F8500)

It is possible that the buffer board will fix your problem, but try removing, cleaning and reseating the flex cables between the buffers and the panel first. All it takes is a little bit of dirt or oxidation to open a connection and cause a line-out condition. Use a lint free cloth and a little bit of alcohol to clean them. Make sure to fully insert the cables and center them perfectly in the connectors or you will have even more lines. If the original line is still there after cleaning, then try replacing the board. Buy a board from a reputable dealer that will guarantee no problems with the board. If you still have the line even after changing the board, then the plasma panel has failed and the only fix is to replace the panel.
Always let the tv set for an hour unplugged before attempting any repair work. There are dangerously high voltages in plasma tvs that can cause severe shocks or even *****.

Hello,

All plasma an lcd TV have boards that control vertical and horizontal output to their respective areas. They are connected to the screen by ribbon cables. If one of these boards fails all together, has a failed chip, a bad connection, or a bad ground somewhere it will result in a black line in the area of that board. A bad ribbon cable connection on the bottom will result in a vertical black bar though the screen. Many times resetting the connection will fix it, if the ribbon cable has been nicked there could be a severed connection. They an sometimes be fixed, but it is a pain. An yes I have done it, but the bar is gone. The same will happen if the chip that outputs to that area opens. The connectors are the first place to look paying close attention to the cable, they are extremely delicate so great care must be taken if you decide to tinker with em, the usually have lift locks that release them, but it is very easy to wreck em.

Good luck.

Possibly could be the Y buffers --if the are next to each other could be a bad connection on a ribbon cable ---you need to call for service

Hi my name is Roety,
I can help you with your issue ,
If the line is present on all inputs, and effects the TV menu you most likely need a new screen.
You can try changing buffers, reseating cables.

Horizontal lines on Screen

here's something you can try...remove the back and notice that there are ribbon cables (FRAGILE!) on the right and left side...alot of times these cables develope bad connections and cause the lines you see...other times the panel will be suspect. Removing these ribbon cables and reseating them have helped me determine in the past if it is a bad connection...or a bad panel
