A 2002 PC made new, 20 years old, a record here for old and
useless really it will grow a virus soon, (I warned you)
last person on XP on earth are you, ?? why?
most 2002 PC can not boot all things we see now today.
usb what, not told.
I have USB SSD, drive
USB flash memory thumb drive.
USB m2. drive
USB DVD drive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2002, boot choices, in the manual.
hdd
cd
floppy
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
no usb listed in the manual
go bios PAGE 1 setup
find all entry points showing USB
the all for boot
see no USB devices allowed boot in 2002
see boot order, in bios if the device fails to show up there it is dead.
what did you put on the USB drive, Linux installer?
not told.
the manual tells to set boot order first, to 1st thing needed to boot, if USB fails to show up there , it does not support it.
some relic BIOS ive seen have line there called allow USB to boot. no kidding look for that too.
answering for usb boot device not told tested and working on modern PC.

SOURCE: compaq evo n1020v not able to boot, no displal.

You have a sick laptop, could be simply a faulty power adapter to a faulty motherboard. The Evo is old and probably not worth fixing, better to put your money towards a new laptop.
There is a way to retrieve data from your hard drive provided it is not faulty.
Remove the hard drive from the laptop and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Insert the adapter into a working computer's USB port and the computer will see this as an external hard drive. You can then open the folders and view your files. Copy the various folders and files you require to a USB memory stick and/or burn these to a CD etc.
It pays to backup your data regurarly because if the hard disk fails and this can happen unexpectedly, you will lose your data.
If the hard drive is faulty, there are companies that can retrieve data from faulty hard drivers, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

SOURCE: Compaq EVO N1020V Not reporting RAM correctly

Your AGP video card is using up 512MB.
In the BIOS, look at the video "frame" or "memory" allocated to it and change it from whatever it is (512MBB?) to a lower amount and reboot and check memeory again.
Once this is successful, fill-in any empty memory slots with the old memory modules.

My screen will not turn on Compaq Evo N1020v

Take a flash light (seriously) when its on point it at the screen do you see something? I betcha you got a bad back light or a inverter issue.

also you can try to hook up a external monitor maybe? if that comes on then you know you got a display fault.

when in doubt please contact manufacture support or bring it into a local repair shop for a estimate.

Be considerate your solution was free, please leave a rating and feedback for your free solution, thanks

Compaq Evo N1020v operating system not found. I dont have recovery disk and also it dosnt seem to pick up xp when I insert into CD Drive. What could be the exact settings to boot from CD Drive?

Hi,

Make sure that your CD is Bootable. Now you will need to do settings in BIOS to boot from CD..

1. Power ON the computer and Press "Delete Key" or F1 or F2 or F10 Key to enter in BIOS.
2. Goto Boot Menu Options
3. Select First Boot Device to CD / DVD
4. Second Second Boot Device to HDD
Now Save Settings and exit . it will reboot computer . If your CD is bootable then it will ask to boot from cd message.

Option 2 :
You can try by pressing F12 or F11 key simultaneouslty after power ON computer. It will display Boot Menu so from there you can select "CD/ DVD Drive " and press enter then it will boot from computer.

It will glad to help you further if your problem doesnot get resolved.

I have a Compaq Evo N1020v and I tried to reinstall the operating system and now I am getting "Error loading operating system". This is an older computer but it was working fine up to a few days ago....

"tried to" do you mean it finished installation and it was succesful? I doubt that

I think you realy have to do the installation again
the best way is to delete all partitions and format
after.

MY LAPTOP COMPAQ N1020 V HAS A BOOTING PROBLEM

I'm not sure what good getting into safe mode is going to do?

More than likely this is a hardware problem - If you have already tried different RAM the next thing would be CPU. You may be able to just reseat the CPU in it's socket to help things out.

On the N1020v to access the CPU, you just have to remove 2 screws underneath the power button strip and then the keyboard just pops up. Remove the heatsink and the CPU is right there. If you want to replace it use the part number on the CPU itself (something like SL245)

To forewarn you though - i have worked on these laptops many times and more often the problem is a failing motherboard than a bad CPU or RAM. However it is worth a shot at fixing it if it just needs a CPU.

Good luck!
Don
