There is a solenoid that opens the door to the dispenser. You can check it with a volt/ohm meter. Sometimes large dishes can block the door keeping it from opening. I personally know on some Whirlpool washers (because it was mine) that if the bottom drawer is put in backwards, it wont let the door open. When I opened the main door, then the dispenser would flop open. You need a meter to check this part if its not the other things. Without it, you are just guessing.

I switched the dishwasher off at the mains and then back on again. At this point the plastic arm started making a noise like it was trying to retract so I pulled the door to help it along. The door opened and the arm fully retracted - much to my relief.

what you need to do is slack off the spring tension on the door hinges. each side of the unit at the base on the plinth there is a screw with a spring symbol next to it. turn this anti clockwise to reduce the spring tension.

you need to adjust the door tension springs which is by a screw each side of the hinges on the plinth of the unit at the front. There is a symbol of a spring to show you which screws to release. do them evenly and the door will not spring up,
