SOURCE: bogs down at 25 30 mph 1st gear 45 in 2nd gear

  • Check to see that the choke is not partially on.
  • Drain the carbs and clean them with B12 chemtool or any other good carb cleaner. The main jets in the carbs are probably gummed up. To clean the carbs properly they will need to be removed from the bike. Be sure to balance and synchronize the carbs when reinstalling.
  • Remove and clean the petcock water trap and clean the trap of water and rust etc. If a filter screen is present clean it as well.
  • Set idle speed to factory specs. Do not use gas with Ethanol.
This should fix the bog problem.

SOURCE: mitsibishi colt 97 stuck in 1st gear

Your link broke off. What might have happened is the car got stuck in 1st, and when you shifted to second, the link broke. Not too clued up on your car, but you probably need to drop the gearbox. On some cars you can take out the shifter without having to drop the box and still see if the link is broken. Good luck

SOURCE: 2000 mazda bogging in all gears especially in 1st and 2nd gears ?

Judging from what i know, the timing on the engine is probably a bit off, and i remember reading the exact same problem on another web site and that is also what they said. So just check the timing on the engine or have it checked by a mechanic if you don't know how to do it.

SOURCE: Transmission problem in E230 Benz

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.

SOURCE: will only drive forward in 1st gear, 2nd gear and

It is propably the gear box. Take the seat off and you will see the gears inside. Mine works only in 2nd and not the 1st or reverse. But I know it is the gear box since my husband replaced the 1st one a while agao. Just need to find the web site for the repacement part. Only cost us about $30 to fix last time. Hope this helps.

surely the bike is fuel injected, which might mean the fuel pump is playing up , which could be a pressure sensor in the system, you might need to get the computor scanned to see whats faulty

Why is my 93 rm 250 smoking and losing power is 1st and 2nd gear

sounds like worn piston rings. In 1st ans 2nd gears the engine wants to rev highest to make maximum powere so rings get a bit worn and oil will be sucked past. Change the rings and try again

that's a bad neutral safety switch...it's a shop repair...now, the reason it goes bad:

the 1st gear is for getting the bike moving, period...you "never" wind out in 1st gear...ever...high rpm and going from 1st to 2nd is very bad for a transmission...think about how much movement is happening to go from the bottom, past neutral, to 2nd gear...that's where most trans damage occurs...once you start moving, go to 2nd, then rev it out... remember...1st gear is for getting moving only...

Only reverse works. No foward gears.

No forward movement in OD or D, but L2, L1 and R work: Forward sprag is broken. R&R. Try not to run or drive the car or further damage could result.

Do you have manual 1st? If so, can you shift through the gears...i.e. manual 1st to manual 2nd then 'D' then 'OD'??? Only 1st and 2nd gears use the forward sprag unless the LO/Rev clutch is engaged...i.e. 1st and 2nd if in "drive". If you can shift threw the gears manually then, yes, your forward sprag broke.

If no manual 1st then your sprag is not what broke. Sounds like you blew up the rear planet. If you pull the pan and find chunks of iron and steel, then that is probably what happened. If you have reverse then it is not the pump. If the pump was bad you would have no line pressure and it would slip in rev. or no rev. Not the beef sun shell either because you have rev., a broken sun shell would cause no 2nd, 4th and rev. gears. Either way the trans needs to come out and torn down and it will be easily found what went. Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Works in 2nd but not in 1st or rev.

I would replace the 2 switches in the shifter, I have several of these for my grandkids and most of the time it is switches. I get all my parts and help from

Goes in 1st and Reverse but not 2nd

Something you may want to check is to see if there is a "governor" for the 2nd gear. My 4 year old has a 4x4 similiar to this and the only two gears that worked were 1st & reverse until my husband had to unscrew a piece from the 2nd gear setting..check the manual or if you don't have one, look online through the manufacturers website. I hope this helps!
