SOURCE: replacing the blades on a craftsman dyt 4000

Not a hard job, but you will need a couple of tools. First, you will need a wrench that fits the nut that is holding the blade on. I prefer a closed end wrench, but an open end will do. Second, you will need a blade changing tool. The brand name is called a Blade Hog. It attaches to the deck and holds the blade in place so you can turn the nut. Raise the deck as high as it will go, attach the Blade Hog, and then loosen and remove the nut. Be sure and pay attention to which side is up on the old blade and put the new one on in the same manner.

hope this helps,
c

Troubleshooting lt2000 craftsman riding mower

it could be but if it kept going with the clutch in i would guess the belt is the wrong one or it was put on incorrectly. not saying you don't know what you are doing but it happens a lot where the belt was routed wrong and did the same thing you are saying. be sure it is routed correctly.

Need a belt routing diagram for a 15.5hp craftsman kohler command model #917259542

With the model number you have you can search for craftsman parts and go to sears and enter the model number and select the deck and find the replacement belt routing sticker for your deck. It goes on the top, left, front.

The belt comes from the motor pulley in between the pulleys in the middle and around the back of them, then out to the front side of blade pulleys, around the outside and straight across the back from blade pulley to blade pulley. Not a hard routing. If looking down on the deck from the seat it will look like an inverted T. Watch out for the belt keepers that help keep the belt aligned in the pulleys, may need to gently retract them to get belt in the pulley.

How do I tighten the deck belt on my craftsman riding lawmower

You should not have to. If the blades are not turning, either the tentioner is frozen and not able to apply tention to the belt or the belt is too large for the tentioner to be effective. Check the routing of the belt and make sure it is following the correct path.

Slack in belt from motor to mower blades

There should be some so the blades are not constintly turning. If the attacment clutch is engaged and the blades do not turn, either the tentioner is frozen in place and not applying tention on the belt, the belt is routed wrong it is too large for the tractor.
