Sometimes when we try to adjust the volume on our Samsung smart TV 8000series,the screen will either freeze or show VERTICAL lines, and then shuts itself off and restarts!??

This ,lately, has been occurring more frequently! However; when TV is running properly, the image quality is still impeccable! It is over couple of years old, and therefore; unfortunately neither the retailer or the manufacturer can be of any help...we are all on our own to figure it out! We suspect that may be the T-Con board may require replacing?! Your advise would be appreciated, hope yo can help. Thank you, Alain K

It could be the T-Con board or the main board. There is no way to know unless you replace the parts one at a time to determine which one is failing.

SOURCE: Blank screen or vertical colored lines on monitor

sounds like a graphics card failing

is it on board graphics ?

if so try a graphics card in there see if that helps it

also if you could borrow a monitor and see if that helps

its either one or the other and is a process of elimination

SOURCE: RCA CRT TV thin white horizontal lines

Look for bad capacitors in the vertical deflection amp, and in the pin amp sections. This is common on most of these types of TV sets.

The caps tend to go high in ESR with age. It is best to use an ESR meter to find the bad caps. It will be a lot faster than workign out waveforms with a scope.

Wikipedia explanation about capacitor ESR:

SOURCE: Samsung 50" DLP TV turns itself off

My Samsun DLP turned off and “Screen Freeze”. Fixed it. How? Well, after reading lots of posts I almost purchased a new $136 bulb but decided to give it one more look. Turns out there’s a small switch inside the TV that needs to be depressed at all times. Samung put this switch there to turn the TV off if the rear panel is removed to protect people from harmful UV radiation. I just moved into a new apartment so it must have become unsettled.

I took my back plate off, pushed the button up and down several times then carefully replaced the panel. Note, the panel has a sort of plastic finger jutting out. Make sure this finger is firmly pressing the switch down. If not, wrap some tape around it to make the finger fatter. Dude, use black electrical tape so you don’t start a fire, OK?

So, my TV came back on and I danced a little jig in the living room. Then I started switching channels and everything froze when I got to channel 68. This didn’t look good. I read more posts about people getting this and simply returning the TV. Oh no! Well, I unplugged the TV several times and got bupkis. Frustrated, I finally pulled the power strip off the wall and plugged the TV into the wall. I got a blue screen and when I switched the channel back to 5 it started working. Danced a little jig. Plugged the antenna power into the wall, got better reception, channel surfed to 68 again (don’t ask), and got screen freeze . . yet again. Why? Unplugged the TV several times and got bupkis.

Then the bulb in my head finally went on. My Samsun does NOT like channel 68 but I could NOT get it back to channel 5. Every time I plugged the TV back in it turn on at channel 68 and froze. Ah, unplugged the antenna again, got the blue screen . . again . . and I was able to change the channel back to 5. Danced a little jig.

Hope this helps sooooooomeone.

SOURCE: Multi-colored vertical lines fade in

Tab Bonding Issue. I too have had this problem with the very same model, it is most often improperly diagnosed as a t-con board issue by most who just want to provide an answer for the sake of there own ego at various forums. This is a manufacturing defect. I have been dealing with Samsung for over a month now and have been offered a replacement model of lesser quality(LN40C650L1F) at a prorated cost of $300.00 to me which I have not accepted as of yet. My TV began having this issue almost exactly 1 year beyond warranty period. Typically it will only happen when TV is cold(if temp in room falls to approx. 68 deg or lower). When cold due to naturally occurring shrinkage as with anything, the tab bonding contacts to the screen are broken and therefore gives you 3 thin horizontal lines across separating the screen into four quadrants vertically and blurry details of everything including channel info, menu info, etc. It goes away after several minutes of warm up time, as the unit warms up expansion of the panel resumes and contact through the defective tab bond is made and picture is back to normal. A quick test to determine this is if you gently squeeze the bezel(frame) around the panel at the top left corner approx. 2 to 4 inches from the corner(this is where the defective tab is located for this particular problem) the problem will go away until the unit is turned off and has ample time to cool off again. When you squeeze you are effectively forcing the tab bonding back together and contact again is made. Another way to diagnose would be to turn your thermostat in house up above 72 degrees or so and wait a few hours for the TV to acclimate to the temp(expand) .This is why if left alone for a few minutes to warm up the problem disappears. Consequently people who keep there homes on the warm side, say above 70 deg. don't often see this problem, but the more heat-cool cycles the units go through the more likely this problem will rear up its ugly head.I believe this defect will pop up eventually on all samsungs produced with the same tab bonding method or materials that were used for however long they were manufactured that way. Naturally everything moves(expands and contracts) through heat-cool cycles but proper engineering methods or materials should prevent something like this from happening for at least, lets say 10 years, the average life expectancy one would expect to get out of a $1500.00 or more purchase depending on screen size. Common sense would dictate larger screens would be more prone to this problem due to more movement and smaller less prone. Unfortunately there are numerous tab bonds all across the top of the screen(panel) and different ones affect different functions of the operation of the set, therefore there may be many other various problems people may be experiencing with there samsungs due to a failure of one of these tab bonds. They are often erroneously diagnosed as circuit board failures due to laziness on the part of the tech. I would recommend to anyone experiencing intermittent or any problems to gently squeeze all along the top of the bezel to locate a defective tab bond. As for dealing with Samsung, all I can say is good luck, it is difficult to reach their corporate office and even more difficult to get a resolution. I would gladly join in any class action lawsuit if brought about as the one regarding their capacitor issue disappeared once they sought to start addressing the issue and this was only after an absurd amount of complaints to the NJ BBB and consumer affairs websites. I think they realize that they have a huge problem with most models manufactured in the last 3-4 years(primarily due to using cheaper components as a cost reduction/profit boosting solution) and as with any large corp., are not willing to issue any recall as it is cheaper to just deal with angry customers on a case by case basis, very unfortunate for them as their sales will suffer terribly because most people research on the web before making major purchases in today,s world and thank god for that.

Need to repair samsung tv

If I remember correctly this is one of the model sets that has the tcon with the double processor IC's. I believe there was a service bulletin or repair kit for the timing board that consisted of a couple chill pads to reduce the heat buildup on these 2 chips. This was something that seemed to happen with 3d TV's. You can get another t-con and it should work again but I'd try to figure out a way to cool the board or the 2 IC's on the board

My samsung LTF320AP08 television shows black screen and then coloured vertical lines . It has volume but no image of channel

When a TV is showing vertical colored lines, a loose wire cable in the TV might be the cause. If you knock on the back of the TV, the vertical colored lines MAY disappear temporarily. This is a sign that a cable is loose or the T-Con board is faulty.
A black screen could just be a sign that the TV is turned off, although if it is producing sound then you know that's not the case. When your TV has a black screen even when it's on, it's quite possible it could actually be your external device and not your TV.

My 50 inch element smart TVs volume is set on 1 but is still very loud. Is there adjustments I can make in the settings to help with this problem?

Hello,

Are you using the TV's remote, or a cable company remote?

Sometimes the screen will show one while the other is adjusting the volume up and /or down...

try adjusting the volume directly from the volume buttons on the TV, see if that works.

Thanks,
