SOURCE: Problems with embroidery unit

The machine should always be off when you attach the embroidery unit. Attaching it without it being turned off can damage the computer system of the machineor embroidery unit. It needs to be tested by a repairman.

SOURCE: how do you upgrade the Bernina Artista motherboard

You do not need to changes any board. The machine carries software and so does the embroidery unit, in order for the to read each other the s.machine and e.unit must have same software. Just take you machine and embroidery unit into your local bernina dealer and have you dealer download version 4.01 to you machine and e unit. then all will work just find. usually the dealer will do the download for free!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: the embroidery unit no longer registers on my

If you bought the embroidery unit with the machine, I would try to take it back to the place of purchase & ask for a sewing tech to check the machine & unit for you.
I recently had a similar issue with my machine-took it to a local bernina agent & within a week, it was back in my sewing room, at no cost to me. I hope this helps you, & yes I have a 180 with the embroidery unit like you mentioned

Where can i find the firmware to update my Bernina 180 Artista. My sewing machine is version 3 and my embroidery module is version 4. Dealers are not able to help.

Unfortunately, the Bernina Artista 180 has no firmware. The available support is here: https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Machines/BERNINA-artista/BERNINA-artista-180 . Other Bernina sewing machines have firmware available on their respective support sites.

On other brands of embroidery sewing machines, the embroidery modules from different machines are not compatible with other generation embroidery machines. This may be true with the Bernina machines, as well, since the brand names are often made by the same company.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Artista 165 embroidery unit will not communicate with my sewing machine.

Did it ever work ? Have you had the firmware updated in the machine - if-so, the V4.04 firmware will not communicate with a V3 embroidery unit and you'll have to get them updated to the same version. Failing that, I'm afraid one of them has a fault on the serial interface. Note also that a 165 sewing machine will not work with a 180/185 embroidery unit because the earlier unit has a 2MB memory internally, whereas the later unit has a plug-in 4MB memory.
